Just finalising my first loop, i'm looking for great thermal performance with very low noise. After a few weeks reading everything i could find (xs, skinnee, martin etc) i have come up with this spec.

Block Heatkiller 3.0 cu
Pump d5 vario
Rad hwlabs sr-1 420
Res xspc d5 tank
Barbs ½ Bitspower silver fat boy
Tubing 7/16 id 5/8 (im after primochill lrt but i cant find this size in the uk)
Fans 3x Xigmatek XLF-F1454
Clamps koolance 16mm clamps
Silver kill coil
Hose cutter
Distilled/de ionised water.

I will be mounting the rad vertically in the front of my case, so some amount of modding will be required leaving me a single drive bay for my dvd/bluray. Looking forward to this bit :D

Any comments will be greatly appreciated as i think i have done all that i can myself.

woah, a 420 SR1 is way too much for just a CPU, even the 420 GTS with 1000rpm fans can do a 4GHz i7 and a couple of oc'ed 470's

get a 240 SR1 instead, and use yate loon fans

also go with 3/8" ID 1/2" OD and a cheaper laing pump (10w will do) because you don't need that much flow for just a CPU

with the spare money buy an EK supreme HF which will shave a few degrees off of your temps

I will probably add my graphics cards at a later date and dont really have many options in my case for another rad so i decided to think ahead and get a bigger rad, i want to run the fans at 500-800rpm. I did considder the yate loons. The block and vario i already have from the mm.

Spec list looks good to me mate, can't argue with going for a bigger rad, nothing wrong with having more cooling than needed and planning ahead is great :)

What case is it going in?

with two 5770's you could easily get away with a 280 rad

assuming you want low rpms for quiet, I have 3 of the yate loons right next to me outside of the case and the stock case fan on my antec 300 drowns them out, and the stock fan is not loud.

I know a 280 would be fine but i want to have as low delta temp as possible with min rpm fans. Are you talking about the d14sl fans?

Im regretting buying a 902 and a H50 now, decided i fancy doing my own water cooling loop on the cpu. cant wait til i get access to the MM :D

I have always been hands on, i have a degree in 3d design craft and can make most things i need to mod the case. It's a project for me as much as the performance it will bring. I stuck with air for years but i think it's time i got wet :)

A 420 rad is a good way to go, you say you want it quiet, with a 420 you could turn the fans right down with just the CPU, and even with a pair of 5770s as they run cool too.

More than likely but it won't be for a a couple of weeks though as i'm about to go on holiday.

My list has changed a bit, sourced some lovely compressions for not a lot more than the barbs and clamps would have cost. I'm like a kid a sweetshop. Went for an ek res over the d5 tank (thanks rich), blue 140mm yate loons some 1/2id 3/4od blue primochill lrt, and a phobya rad stand. I should be ordering the rest over the next few days :)
