Indoor cat + windows

The mind boggles at the stupid posts that have been made.
First up is a poster that doesn't want his cat going outside unless it gets dirty. WTF?
And the rest of these posters seem to somehow know that their cat is happy not to be let outside even though being outside is the most natural thing for the cat. Obviously they have asked the cat if it is happy not being let outside?

Who cares as long as you have a pet...
Selfish buggers!

You sound surprised at the varying degrees of hopelessness displayed on here with regards to animals. Yes, some of the replies has been so stupid it leaves one baffled and concerned for the posters' dependants, but there has been some good replies.

Point is, a cat should be given the oppertunity to explore outside and be left to its own decision on where it wants to spend its time. Then again, I'm not overly concerned about a cat being indoors (not that I would ever bestowe such a curse on my cat), it's more about the attention and stimulation factor. If the OP is a single guy, I'd imagine he would be working rendering the cat to walk his (by his own admission) small apartment being bored to tears. Especially if it's a kitten. If you feel you must lock the poor thing up, at least get it a play mate so they can keep themselves busy.

Boo hoo, get a grip.

He's no doubt going to give it a better life than in many households, even those from which it can access the outdoors. You seem to believe that 'can it get outside', is the sole factor in determing whether or not a cat's life is a happy one. It will have a MUCH better life than 99% of other cats and compared to if it had been allocated to some council house urchin, so seriously, try and put things into some perspective.

Obviously you have asked the cat if it's devastated at not being able to get outside?

This is exactly it, the cat is very happy, she gets a lot of attention and play, she's very active and doesn't show any inclination to go outside. I had the front door open earlier when i was taking in the shopping and she didn't even want to look outside. She only ever shows the front door attention when she wants to play with the keys! As I said, nobody here knows the cats history or anything about the situation generally, so people are just using it as an excuse to get on their high horses.

The cats welfare is absolutely my priority, accusations otherwise amount to nothing more than pathetic trolling

I wouldn't get a cat if i lived in a pokey little flat, its just not fair. Also the smell of the litter tray is not cool.

It's not pokey and if you keep the tray clean and use decent litter, it doesn't smell

Here's another cat psychologist that knows his cat is happy because it has told him so. :(
WTF is up with you people? How do you know whether your cat would prefer a natural cats life or not? Sounds like selfish people trying to justify their selfish demands of an animal.
Put a catflap on your door and see what happens. Hmm...

have posted as have quite similar looking cats....willow lives first floor maisonette and begs to be let out onto the lounge sash windowsill...especially late evenings. she has fallen out 3 times with no ill effects including a running jump after a bird when in her younger years :)

she does have a cat flap but enjoys being outside in the garden as much as being on the windowsill.

Well technically any pet has been domesticated for our purposes and enjoyment and specifically bred for this purpose, if your that bothered about people keeping housecats why dont you go release your cat into the wild in somewhere like deven where im sure its supposed to live and make a stand?!

Any pet, whether it be cat, dog, fish, rat, mouse, bird, horse has been fashioned in a way that suits us best, not the animal, so quit your high horse, the op or anyone else can for that matter keep an animal how he or she likes, as long as it is...

Healthy,
Looks happy (Ie it will come up to you, play with you and wont try to kill you when it sees you everyday)
Has all its needs catered for

Lol if you actually knew anything about animal behaviour rather than just trolling for the sake of it, you'd know how to tell if a cat is happy or not.

As a human do you walk around saying 'I'm HAPPY TODAY' because people won't know otherwise?

You don't miss what you've never had, if I cat has grown up indoor from birth I see no reason at all why it would want to go outside, in fact I would imagine it to have a negative effect. Unless some of you are doctor doolittles long lost brothers I don't know how you can know what a cat wants/thinks above anyone else.

Nope it's about giving it the option.

People like you are incredible hypocrites. Why not give cows and chickens the option to not get slaughtered? Oh but you eat them, so it's ok. Not pets you say? Until they die, there's very little practical difference.

Try and have some perspective. At least a cat won't be slaughtered and eaten, and by living indoors it's less likely to come to harm.
