Where are all these jobs gonna come from?

Should train everyone to lay Fibre cables.

Then get them to roll out fibre to the whole country lol even rural areas as bt do the exchanges:rolleyes:

This is what we should be doing - infrastructure projects, improving the country and ensuring it remains competitive.

This is what annoyed me about Labour and Gordon Brown - we have a massive public sector that he claims we cannot dare cut as it will affect growth, but on the whole it produces nothing but more bureaucracy and barriers to growth and stuffed full of a lot of non jobs.

We do need to spend to get out of recession, spending on high speed rail networks, new homes, power stations & wind farms, agriculture and farming encouragement to make our land more productive, reservoirs, better communication infrastructure like Allnamestaken suggests.

Assets that will be worth something, that are tangible and that benefit the country now and in the future, and more importantly make Britain a place business and trade wants to invest in.

The EU could pull its finger out and protect it's trade area too, EU import quotas on certain products to ensure each country can boost manufacturing would be a start.

Fixing for you:

We do need to spend to get out of recession, new (perhaps something like ''super motorways'' with little to near no sliproads between large cities, no speed limit and a small toll payment, in addition to the current networks of A, B and M roads) motorways, spending on high speed rail networks, nuclear reactors, agriculture and farming encouragement to make our land more productive, fiber network.

Finally people need FAR more encouragement to follow some sort of higher education. It should not happen that people stop after just secondary school, people should finish some form of higher education.

SO, YOU FAILED TO REEAD WHAT I POSTED YET STILL BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF JOBS OUT THERE:

Dunno which world you live in but it ain't the same one as most of us ****!

@singist If you're going to make a factual argument why not post some actual facts instead of just opinion/rants...

I was under the assumption there were plenty of jobs out there, are you going to post anything to back up this thread that you've started - i.e. numbers of unemployed claiming job seekers allowance and numbers of job vacancies etc...

Technically there are but the ratio can be pretty steep in some places...

Unemployment data gives 2.47 million jobseekers as of April 2010 from here: http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?id=12

Data from here suggests 492,000 vacancies: http://www.statistics.gov.uk/statbase/Product.asp?vlnk=13310&More=n

Of course, not all of these are necessarily actual jobs, but that is mitigated by the exclusion of agriculture\forestry\fishing jobs vacancies.

So that's at least a 5:1 ratio of jobseekers to jobs on average. The London figures are 10:1 according to the same source.

Wait, you're saying we need MOAR people going to uni? Really?

Yes, I don't know why you guys consider uni a joke, it's the only chance of getting a well paid job later, unless you become a criminal or have good friends ''high up''. Education is not a cost, it's an investment, one of the best actually.

Education is, just as infrastructure, and investment for the future. We don't need dumb ( I'll use this word once) chavs hanging about on the streets, we need them to learn something so they can do something rather than needing to import knowledge from abroad.

European countries should be a mix of a production, and a knowledge economy.

By the way I should add that there is no data on whether all of those jobs pay a living wage, or if they are entirely commission based instead of salary...

He is just ranting against the system, he has had a tough start and not supporting parents and tries to blame it on the successful in life.

With all due respect snowdog, I'm capable of speaking for myself. I would also ask that you refrain from misrepresenting my view...of course I don't know what you mean by successful, if you mean rent-seekers that add no value to the economy, then I say that they are part of the problem in general.

He also claims(or claimed, it's been ages since I spoke to him) he can't find a job in London.

What relevance does that have to the stats I just posted? Are you just trying to attack the messenger to deflect attention from factual information?

In short:
Cut money from:
Helathcare, immigration, environmentalism, government.

And if you cut money from healthcare.....

1.) You have less babies living.
2.) You have more people dying under 21 from treatable conditions.
3.) You have more Long term Sick... and longer waiting lists (with people out of work - waiting on an op) , and less people treated for terminal illness, and serious conditions etc.
4.) Less free prescriptions to enable people to work (so less people in work) ..... More people that will be paid on genuine sick benefit.... More people that need paid to genuinely care for relations as there are no nurses etc.

And ultimately - less people in work paying taxes and N.I.

Health is the number 1 priority in most peoples eyes - especially those without the funds for private care. And it is THE most important thing to everyone - whether you are 8, 18 or 80 years old. If you have a serious medical condition at any of those ages - how do you propose you are treated if the funding is pulled and what effect do you think that would have on you immediate family ?

The main reason I don't mind giving money to a thieving government (even though I have private health care) - Is because it's only when you have a serious health problem that you realise how important your health and wellbeing is - you literally can;t do anything without your health - and we are so, so lucky to have the NHS.

Rent seekers ( or their elders) had to work top get in their position too, if I was in a position to buy or even build homes, and then rent them, It would be a no brainer. Stable in come for my (potential) kids.

Sorry, just explaining your situation, I think personal situations highly affect logical thoughts on politics and life in general. It's just easier to react to people if you are know what you are dealing with. Looking back I shouldn't have posted that, it does indeed add nothing...

The more people who have a qualification, the less valuable it is. The idea that everyone should go to uni only succeeds in devaluing the qualification (as well as, in many cases, decreasing the quality of the education, see A levels as they have become more 'inclusive'...)

We do need to reform our education system, but that involves ditching the disasterous comprehensive system and teaching people to their strengths, rather than adapting qualifications to their strengths.

Yes but you also have:
Less oldies claiming benefits and only costing money. Pensioners above 65 are by far the largest reason healthcare costs are growing out of proportion.

Your first 2 points are also arguable, increasing the own risk would cause the younger to die ? If people can't afford 50 more quid on healthcare they should not have kids in the first place... In fact, I can barely imagine people not being able to contribute to their own costs a little bit more.

I disagree with you last point personally. In my eyes, Safety & education > *.

thing is, he added me on msn when i got made redundant and hes exactly the same now, moaning about how he cant find a job and trying to show off a girl that infact isnt hot and dumped him, ive given him ideas on what to do but he just argues, i wouldnt hire him anyway

I found a new job before my last job actually ended and i live in stoke where your lucky to even have a part time job in mcdonalds

people who say there are jobs there but try and say people think they're too good for it must have a good job already

I say there are, I think people think they are and no I don't.
Simple really, you are talking rubbish. I have a crap job but am proud to be earning my own money. And I want to see the long term unemployed get squished, there really is NO excuse unless you are disabled. Crap jobs ARE out there, and you really shouldn't have the "lifestyle choice" of saying you don't want a crap job because you get more for free from the people willing to do crap jobs.
Also, I think it's tough if you can't find your "perfect job", get something to keep yourself going until you find it, don't make US keep you going.
