just got the steam doom3 deal , had nothing but problems getting it to keep the custom res i have had to set by using autoexec.cfg . what a let down lol
 
Guys I've finally got a pc capable of playing games and now I'm looking at buying some games, I was thinking dirt 2,grid, just cause 2.....what other games do you guys recommend....i'm open to all suggestions really but i prefer shooters, driving and rps.

I'm not great at RPGs by any means, but I couldn't win one fight on Mount and Blade. Fighting from horseback is impossible and you're outnumbered a million to one.

Left 4 dead 2 is on a nice offer, great fun with friends

The Witcher, I'm still downloading it but it's highly praised by almost everyone

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R games for survival/horror/RPG style game. Amazing atmosphere in these games

Tropico 3 if you like owning your own little 3rd world Island and becoming a dictator in a bannana republic

What else...

Borderland a good game with friends, rpg shooting game thing...I'd wait until the 4th though to see if it's on a better offer.

Anyone care to add?

Wait and see what deals come out over the next few days and buy the ones we get all excited about :D

Meanwhile, make a list of others you'd like, but don't buy them yet in case they show up in the daily deals at reduced prices.

I'd say so, but I'm going to wait until the 4th just incase.

I played it on my mates comp and it was good fun being a dictator getting watched by the USA fleet and watching them try to topple the dear leaders power!
 
Can't believe James Bond Quantum of Solace is still £29.99. It's ten times more than it should be. No reduction at all in this sale. Never has had either. :(

I've already posted in that thread but I'm willing to pay for a copy from the multipack. I can pay someone now or early tomorrow morning. I'm going out tomorrow at 10am for the rest of the day, so if nothing has happened by then then I'll buy a single copy.
 
Has anyone got the old id games working in windowed mode? I hit alt+enter when playing Final Doom and it went into a postage stamp sized window, can't work out how to resize it (if that's possible).

Try this sticking these in the Doomconfig.cfg:

seta r_customWidth "1920"
seta r_customHeight "1080"
seta r_fullscreen "1"
seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_aspectRatio "1"

Save it and copy into the Doom 3\d3xp folder as well.

See if that works?

(I'm assuming you are using the res above but edit to your needs and change the aspectRatio from 1 to 2 if it's 16:10 res you're using!)

You might wanna pickup an engine mod for it (or whatever its called officially). I use zdoom, can't quite remember how it works but i think its just replace the .exe, launch through steam, pick which game you want to launch, play, alt+enter and resize is manually.

Final Doom, Plutonia Experiment at ~1920x1080 with mouse look and keys changed to a more modern WASD strafe.

tried this and still starts in 640x480 res , game starts then goes to desktop and then restarts . no idea why this happens tbh , tried it even while gaming i redo it via the console and do a vid_restart but when i exit steam it resets to 640x480 :(

Yeah thank god. Playing them again i just couldn't understand how i ever played with up/down/left/right with no mouse or strafe. Makes all the difference in the world. I think the only 1 it doesn't work for is Master Levels which is a shame, but it'll work for all Dooms and all the Heretic/Hexen series.

Np. Gotta love the classics.
