Is not a mandatory bank holiday.

Scotland

There are nine statutory bank holidays across the whole of Scotland. There are also other public or local holidays which can be determined by local authorities, based on local tradition. Since 2007, St Andrew's Day has been an alternative, voluntary public holiday, which can replace an existing local holiday.

Businesses and schools are not necessarily closed on Scottish bank holidays, and the Scottish banks follow the English and Welsh bank holidays for business reasons.

didn't realise that about Scotland, just Northern Ireland taking the wee then, 17th March for the Catholics and 12th July for the Protestants :)

I wish England had a St Andrew's bank holiday too. It's when I celebrate my nameday (the Saint I'm named after) as per the Greek orthodox church :)

I beat you all I got 17 days here in Belgium this year although it can change from year to year if the holiday falls at the weekend it's still a holiday and you don't get it transferred to the Monday (ie 1st May was on a Sat so all shops etc were shut the banks didn't gain anything since they were shut anyway on Sat lol )

But it has been a Bank Holiday since 2007 ;) and anyway they still get 9 Statutory days per year
Nobody I know in Scotland gets 9 days bank holiday per year. I don't, we officially get 8 days bank holiday as part of our entitlement. I hadn't even heard of St Andrews day being a bank holiday until I read this thread.

Really surprised about Scotland, in all the years I’ve worked I’ve never gotten one off, all the English company’s used to get in contact with us because we were never closed for bank holidays :( , I think its only the civil service that really follows them.
