Dont bother with that. Its seriously too difficult.

I've tried a Minstrel and Captain so far, the two strongest solo classes early on, and still get easilly whooped by level 12.

It was no easier than getting whooped on my lame Lore Master (lame because they are so hard to play solo with).

Your having a laugh ???? every class in the game can easily reach 20 with no deaths, you don't even have to play safe to do it. When Mines Of Moria was released they dumbed down the difficulty levels right across the board, think my alt RK got to 37 before dying. The only time you have to worry is if you join a PUG lot who dont have a clue what they are doing.

To be honest, I've got 2 out of 3 chars past lv20 wiht the undying title. The only reason my RK doesn't have it is because she fell off a cliff. I can't imagine how you managed to die with a captain, let alone a minstrel - all they're good at doing is surviving!

it gave me 9x .bin files a .bin file is a cd image....

there was no simple exe to run and install the game just cd images labeled lotro1a , lotro1b , lotro 1c etc
i didnt try to put it onto cds i tried to mount them on a virtual drive the read me didnt say to do anything other than install from a dvd useless.

maybe the turbine american site download isnt the same but codemasters is rubbish

I downloaded it a couple of weeks ago from Codemasters and I had 12x .bin files totalling 9.68Gb and lotrosetup.exe to install it. Sounds like your download didn't complete.

Files were :

lotrosetup.exe
lotrosetup-1a.bin
lotrosetup-1b.bin
lotrosetup-1c.bin
lotrosetup-1d.bin
lotrosetup-1e.bin
lotrosetup-1f.bin
lotrosetup-1g.bin
lotrosetup-1h.bin
lotrosetup-1i.bin
lotrosetup-2a.bin
lotrosetup-2b.bin
lotrosetup-2c.bin

When I downloaded it recently I only had about 3 files to install. Can't remember the file names as they're shoved on an external drive now.

Still, if anyone in the OcUK kinship could mail me an invite, char name is Taldnur - level 16 (I think) Dwarf Guardian.

Is there's much (if any pvp) in this game?
I do enjoy chilling out doing PvE but I love being able to take a back and do some pvp.

There's a single large PvP zone, a bit like a DaoC Frontier, with castles and stuff to take over. You either go there as your toon, at max level, or make a monster character which is automatically max level. You can't actually PvP in the main game world.

Pestilence, your best bet is to send a tell to either Cwyngael or Feliz, who are almost always on, the losers ;)

Yup, the lvl 20 without death was actually marginally difficult solo if you played normally and actually did normal level appropriate stuff, I'm trying to remember what you come up against before lvl 20, the goblins in the shire, a couple of the escort quests and so on, the team instance with an elite at the end were all quite easy to die on, the team instance especially if you did it solo :p

Now, its so easy its a joke, I think I was playing a loremaster and can't remember when I died, infact I'm not sure I died up till moria somewhere and still not sure I've died, I certainly got to the high 40's, and this was doing things like instances designed for groups, solo, and area's for quests for teams, solo. There used to be so much actually difficult content, its all gone, like many MMO's they just get easier over time, not because you get better, actually easier. Theres a cave in north bree that used to have 2/3 elites and 2-3 add's that was one of the hardest fights for the first 50 levels if you did it solo and not an easy group either, solo you'd have to pick off a little guy one at a time and have something to cc an elite, or two , and run in and out.

Now its like 2 signature guys with 1/3 the health they had and ANY class can solo it on level without breaking a sweat, and thats pretty much the same game over.

THe only carebare thing I like in the game is the inspirations for doing the main story line stuff without a group, because finding groups for most of it was a pain in the ass.

The game was made easier with almost every update since launch though, Moria came with yet more nerfing of anything difficult, and Siege of Mirkwood did it again.

Been playing wow for a few weeks, peeing around in summer and fancied playing for a couple months with the triple xp thing, it seems to be way easier than I remember aswell.

THe biggest problem with lotro, is its not just old content made easier so you can get through it easier/quicker on alts rather than being boring and hard over and over again, all the new stuff is easier with every expansion aswell, Moria(non raiding stuff) is a cake walk, theres nothing that can't be solo'd inside moria thats not inside an instance and thats pretty awful if you ask me.

Is it still possible to get the £75 lifetime subscription? I thought it was an offer until the end of June, but I can't find any working links now.
*edit.* I do not have the game or expansion packs, but I have an account created from the beta. Do I need the base game on my account to be able to get lifetime? *edit*

Thanks for any pointers.

Must admit that I have never had any trouble getting groups for stuff, at least not on Laurelin, I just ask in the global looking for group channel and have a group within 15mins usually.

Yeah, you have to actually buy the game first :p

Thanks Sleepery,

Wasn't sure as it's going free to play if this was the case or not. The Lifetime gives you permanent VIP, and the VIP bit says it gives you all the original content, so I wasn't sure if you needed to get the game/expansions now or not.

Cheers

I might go back to this, I still have the disks + most of the expansions. I didn't play for particularly long (level 35 or somthing) but had a great time in game + most people were helpful etc.

I'm tempted to give this a try, even though I'm a pvp person. I'm also thinking about trying DDO to, which does seem to have more pvp going on.

Very little pvp in DDO, conisits of entering a pub/inn and going to their public brawl area where its a free for all or there are things like capture the flag type games, but dont think a lot of ppl do those which are entered from talking to someone in the pub/inn.
