If you where a millionaire , where would you live?

South East Asia, which bit id have to do more research.

I've given up on Europe in general now though some parts of it are still ok its yesterdays ecconomy and going forward Asia is the way.

I'd stay in this part of the world as long as I could.

Ive heard nice things about Norway. Did you work there for 18mos? Whats it like living in Norway? What are the people like, did you have to learn the language or is it easy to manage without doing so? Id like to visit Norway one day.

It's a very gentle place. People are friendly and well spoken in an array of languages, English included off course. I learned some Norwegian but found the people, without fail, enjoy practicing their English on me so I conversed in English about 98% of the time. While Norwegian is not needed, I would HIGHLY recommend learning it, even if it's just for paying homage to your host country. Or for the fact that even basic Norwegian would open up swaths of job options for you.

In Norway, if you're enroute to citizenship, taking Norwegian lessons is basically compulsory, so again, worth learning the language.

As for lifestyle, it's unmatched to this day, and I lived in a few places in my time. There is a massive focus on outdoor activities and hiking. I mean, with mountains and valleys that breathtakingly incredible, I'd be out there every day if I can.

The weather in Bergen was grim most of the year, but it's a different grimness than we have here in Britain.

I lived there when I was 20 - 21, and was a part time student whilst working at the university and helping my girlfriend's (at the time) father teach technical level English to his lab workers. My girlfriend was a teacher, so we managed with the bills. However, with such a massive focus on lifestyle, friends and stunning environments, money and status hardly ever came into play.

Need to get to work now, but if you have any more questions, ask. If you're thinking about taking the chance in going there ... count yourself lucky.

A million doesn't go very far at all here (SB), a relatively simple 3-bed single-level house with a garden is around $1,500,000.

As a multi-millionaire though (as in tens/hundreds) there are some seriously sweet properties here or in Malibu that I'd be more than happy to take a pick from - there are epic houses right on the beach at Rincon Point - (http://carpinteria.olx.com/beachfro...d-in-rincon-point-carpinteria-ca-iid-19366282) but almost $3 million for a 2bd,2bath is a fair wedge of cash :p

San Diego would be sweet too, I'd probably have a pad there too somewhere in La Jolla proper, though again the temptation would be to find somewhere just North like Encinitas which has a surf-break right on the doorstep.

Surely you would still be limited by immigration policies, so you would probably not have much luck moving to other countries.

Or would that not be an issue since you have money?

With a million it'd either be round where I live now, Buckinghamshire (a bird just crashed into my window as I type. Little fella is fine :D) , or down Torquay/Newquay way.

With millions I don't know. As others have said, Vancouver (I was almost Canadian. My parents were going to move there after I was born as my mum's uncle lived there but my brother came along and ruined that) or a penthouse appartment on the Thames overlooking Parliament or something.

I'd love to have this problem, trying to decide where to live.

Probably same place as I live now, I'd just take loads of holidays and buy a really really really really really really really really really expensive bicycle and about another 5 on top.

Probably Dyke Road in Brighton, failing that somewhere out in one of the little villages dotted throughout the south downs.

I LOVE sussex <3

I'd stay where I am

Would have to pay Ntl for a cable connection to be put in (would probably cost £1000,000) :D

a Little hilltop village in the south of France, or Southern Italy.

Holiday home in the Maldives or the Far East.

Somewhere around where I live now, in Worthing. I even know the exact house I'd like to renovate. Or down on the beach at Goring/Findon.

Proper fantasy world would be to build a 5 bed oak-framed house on the Sussex Downs with sweeping views out to sea. Have a second home in Pacific Heights San Francisco and holiday homes on Samos or Cephalonia, a ski lodge in Whistler, a Devon cottage and a farmhouse in Normandy.

In truth though, enough cash to buy the flat downstairs & convert the two back to the original house would be a real dream come true.

With a million or two, you have enough to retire on if you choose the right location.

Probably somewhere like Texas which is somewhere where your money goes quite far, but you're not in some remote backwater.

To all those wanting to live in the Highlands, or in the middle of nowhere, how would you cope with illness, or retirement, or if you couldn't drive for whatever reason?

I'm not suggesting it'd be difficult - especially not if you've got a healthy bank balance - but there's a lot to be said for having shops, doctors, and all that stuff within easy access.

I'm sure if the local inhabitants can manage, others would too I imagine.

Common sense really.

Neither are we taking into account such things as long term health either. (Ambulance helicopter for eg in absolute worse case scenario)

Its a fun thread.

There is a lot to be said for removing yourself from a pointless bustling society and living a more austere life sytle, in peace and quiet regardless how close the local ammeneties or neighbours are.

If you make this choice, you have already thought through the consequences of living in a remote location and probably are still happy to do so.

I'd tend to cattle and crops.

:)
