keeping your home cool at night.

So not horrendously expensive, but you still need to keep the room cool once cool, no?
Yep, although once you've had a good blast you usually feel cool for a couple of hours, and can turn it off to save the pennies... just putting it on when you feel too hot. :)

I guess for the 3-4 days we get of "hot" weather it doesn't seem too expensive, but still seems a bit of a extravagant purchase for a few days of hot weather. :)

In most cases, yeah. :) The room where I have mine installed is south facing and has a flat roof making it like a greenhouse, so no matter what it's always useful. :) We've tried getting expensive insulations, and had previously tried keeping windows open and using insect nets and all sorts but nothing seemed to solve it, so for me AC was the only option to keep the room liveable. :) It just makes all the difference: now that I've had it I don't think I'd ever want to be without it. :)

Double glazing and cavity wall insulation makes a huge difference, believe it or not.

You could use bowls of cold water to absorb some heat

It is complete tripe. Though I suspect someone with heart/lung issues may be more susceptible to some sort of reaction.

I've jumped into an ice hole in the artic circle as part of a surival training course I was on 10 years ago. I'm still here.... albeit several inches smaller. :( :o

In fact I went swimming in the Solent couple of weeks ago and it was at about 14C - I didn't die I don't think.

I'm guessing people are getting confused with having the wind knocked out of them and thinking their heart is stopping or something. I remember jumping in the River Wye at some ungodly temperature and it really knocked the wind out of me for a few seconds and I couldn't breathe at all. At the time I did think I was having a heart attack or something. :D

You'll get the Mammalian diving reflex which slows your heart rate considerably.

I tend to open all the doors and have a fan blowing air inwards after about 9PM. it doesn't help that the PC, AV amp and TV all kick out an obscene amount of heat though.

That's surprising. The cold won't have killed you but the crap floating in the Solent might.

I was trying not to think about it. It was a regional ops meeting and we hired a yacht for the day. Seafin it was called. Great fun. Good food weather and fun on jetskis. Jumping off the sundeck was great fun too. But the current was surprising really very strong. Was a challenge just keeping up with the yacht which was anchored!

I have found out eating Cereals and milk instead of a supper has lowered my body temp. I usually have some rice crispies and milk at night now instead of hot foot and it chills me right out.

I also have a nice cold shower right before bed time and sleep as nature intended.
