If you where a millionaire , where would you live?

Lac D'Annecy, Haute-Savoie, France.

Beautiful scenery (amongst the best I've ever seen), long, warm and reliable summers, and stunning skiing/boarding conditions in the winter.

Wow this thread has grown , one of my biggest yet :) .
Anyway having thought about it a little more , I have come to decision that I cba to learn Swiss German and so will just move to canada instead :p

The bad thing about that is..

"Honey, make me some tea.."

"We're out of milk..."

""

The island would have all that it needs - Cows, vegetable patches, chickens, lambs, pigs.

It would have solar panels to power the house and the internet would be accessed via satellite.

It would also have other people... like Jacob, Jack, Kate, Hurley etc..

£1m - somewhere in West London.. maybe Ealing.. and building my own house
£5m - Kyoto and/or Tokyo
£10m - mid levels or near The Peak in Hong Kong

right under the airport and surrounded by snotty retirement brits swearing about immigrants in Britain and how nasty the Spanish are?:(

(We fly there then head to a slightly less britishafied part of the coast further south and it's still full of those above. The people that start up and only go to british pubs and have sunday roast down by the waterfront instead of actually interact and live remotely spanishy...)

You can understand where the Spanish resentment comes from.

I don't understand why they do it myself. I go to spain to get into Spannish culture, not create a mini Britain..

Ah yes. How could I have forgotten Lake Geneva , Switzerland

I live in Lausanne, spent the week by the lake. At Ouchy they set up a big screen for the football - at half time on Sunday I jumped in the lake to cool off from the 30* heat....

It is indeed quite a special place.

Just wish I had the millions, and didn't work 80 hours a week. (don't do a phd folks!).

I guess some like their current lifestyle, but want better weather. Hardly difficult to comprehend!

That is ignorant.

No effort to integrate. It causes friction just like the English moan about the poles etc.

Polish shops popping up etc. Same in Spain.

You can have the sun and your own culture, but at least make some effort to learn the langauge and customs.

In switzerland you can choose from French, german or Italian (plus others). and anyway, English gets you very far in most places. Certainly you could live easily only with english.
However, to integrate and feel as one I would learn the language. Fench or Italian should be easiest.

Can a mod change 'where' to 'were' in the title, it's really annoying me when I click on General Discussion :(

Furthermore, I would like a cheeky secluded mansion/castle in Scotland somewhere to compensate me for having to read it all day.

Well that's decided then , Lake Geneva for me when I win the lottery .
You are one lucky man living out there :) .

Depends on how rich I was. If I was only worth £1m then I'd probably live where I do now. If I was richer (say £5m) and therefore wouldn't need to work, then possibly somewhere in or near London close to a train station.

Might even consider my hometown (Salisbury) as I have friends and family there.

For me I think the main criteria for choosing my home would not really be picking a country/region/town, more a case of:

-Good public transport links (even if I could afford a chauffeured car, I might not always want to use it)
-Near stuff I'm interested in (typically meaning near London)
-Safe secure area, no chavs etc
-Capability for a good internet connection

Interestingly where I live now ticks none of those boxes except for being fairly safe, indicating that I live here due to my job more than anything else.

Would be two houses, one near Auckland New zealand... out of the city with decent pasture for a few horses etc, and one in suffolk for catching up with familly.
