Just about to order 4 x Kumho KU31

Saying "stage x" is really dumb if you don't say who its been tuned by and with what package of theirs.

Thanks, I must be dumb for not going into massive detail, especially when all places Stage 1/2/3 packages are roughly equal?
:D
But he originally got burnt by TMS remap, so bit the bullet, went to the VXR performance centre, and had a remap/few mods done, it made 296BHP on the rollers, They do 'stage' packages, but he mixed and matched what he bought to tailor it for himself.
I didn't ask for a detailed list, so I can't say exactly what he had done, I've just seen the RR printout and driven/been in it a few times.

I always knew that like the tails of how great PS2 are, the tales of Costco amazingness were also just lies, lies and more lies.

this should be a good read for you then

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/55775-from-conti-scii-to-kumho-ku31/

he goes from sportcontact 2 to the kumho and here are his thoughts

Pretty much sums up what I (and others) have been saying in a much better way. They are a superb tyre for the price, the wet weather grip really surprised me too.

I can totally see where he's coming from with his comments about the tyres giving the car a 'sideways attitude' when loaded in a corner, I especially noticed this on track. You can certainly feel them allowing a higher slip angle before 'digging in' and gripping. But as we all know I love a tail happy car, I like my cars to adopt a slightly sideways attitude in a corner, so these tyres actually suit my driving style perfectly ;)

I'll certainly get another set when these need replacing.

Interesting to see he does not choose them again when they wear out.

I think the fact he isn't also going back to his Conti's tells me he's just searching for the perfect tyre for his car..

:)

i would spend the extra and get the conti's, i had kumho's before and imo they are ditch finders, all i got was wheelspin and understeer. conti's were a hole different ball game, sticky as **** in wet or dry.

Which Kumho's did you have though? Their lower end stuff is indeed crap, but the KU31 sits high in their range, and are a world apart from the budget ditchfinders at the bottom of their range.

dont remember, some middle of the range one probably. for the small amount extra, i would go contis everytime.

But this thread is talking specifically about the KU31, and I would hazard a guess that the Kumhos you tried were something lower in the range. For you to say you'd rather have the Contis is about as relevant as somebody popping into this thread and saying they'd take the Contis over some random Linglongs or something.

i guess. but kumho are a cheapo brand and ive found the conti's ive had have always been spot on.

I am no Kumho fan but you are being very unfair.

When my parents got the 530d it had EcoContacts all round and the DSC light was not a stranger to even a less than spirited journey. Replaced all 4 with Eagle F1's and the grip was far better. It would be very wrong of me to use this experience to state that Conti's in general are crap!

Exactly. You can't write off an entire brand as crap just because you have tried something from the lower end of their range and found it to be rubbish. When I first got my RX7 it came shod with Pirelli P6000s on the rear and they were shocking, both in the wet and dry. Does that mean all Pirellis are crap? Of course not.

Dear god the MR2 had Pirelli P6000's all round when I got, horrible ditch finding, tail spinning, death trap tyres.

Replaced with KU31's and grip is now very predictable and quite good. Slides a little bit but not letting go if you get what I mean? That's only under high load on track though. They have stood up well to 2 trackdays and a lot of general use. Grip on track in both the wet and dry was good enough to keep up with pretty much anything comparable (mx5's, clio 172's etc) on R888's or other track rubber.

They are the latest version of the ContiSport Contact and as they are new are only available in limited sizes so unless you plan to run mismatching tyres check they are also available in your front size. Not seen any results for them yet but I doubt they'll be worse than the highly rated ContiSport Contact 3.

are the ContiSportContact™ 5 P any good? I have been quoted 210 pounds for 255 30 19

If you can get those in the UK your doing very well, its the latest top performance tyre from Conti and reviews show it as one of the best performance summer tyres out there, really only matched by Michelin PS3.

But it so new not many people are running them in UK, but if reviews are true you can't get much better all round summer tyre.

I'd be suprised if PS3 is matching anything regarded as 'best' :p
