Mitsu Galants ?

1996 is mid 90's surely ?
Whereas the 8th gen galant starts from the same year.

Yes but I was making the point about Japanese interiors from the 90's, which were almost universally poor, whereas the European manufacturers (ie your Volvo) were generally much better.

Hence me saying 'JAP' in my post

Poor in what way exactly?

I always hear comments regarding this, but certainly haven't found any problems with the dashboards/interiors of either of the 90s Jap cars that I've owned. Both were well built, functional and in my personal opinion, better looking than the efforts of so called "superior" European efforts.

Poor in that they look **** with the moulded on stitching and over use of switches.

Dosent stop them being reliable of course.

Nowadays, perhaps not.
But 15-20 years ago, very much so, yes.

My experience of Jap interiors comes solely from 20 year old Toyotas...

I really liked the Dashboard arrangement on my old Supras. As you'd expect for something 25 years old it was a bit "dated", but functional and by no means "boring". I also think the dashboard arrangement in the Soarer is superb - Really built and functional, although people will still complain about Jap cars, and yet completely ignore it when "European" manufactures bang out nasty designs.

A nice 2000 2.4 gdi for 3k has popped up, it is however nearly a 2 hour drive away, you guys reckon I should take a look at this one, it looks neat all around on all the pics but the price is a tad steep I think :

Don't think this one has heated seats though and not sure this has climate control or just regular aircon.

A Mk3 Mondeo 2.5 is a considerably better car but this is rather unfair on the Galant as its from a different decade and therefore tends to cost more!

Lol, Mistubishi over anything Ford make.

I'd avoid the GDI engine, they had an issue where they can coke up a bit causing problems. The 2.5 V6 is a beautifully smooth engine.

The 2.4 GDI requires use of super unleaded ideally.

The 2.5 V6 is by far the best engine - fairly economical if driven sensibly, as well as a nice amount of power and torque.

Avoid the auto on them though - they like to strip the splines on the torque converter. The manuals are the ones to go for - the ONLY known weak-spot on them is that the input shaft bearing may go, which will give you a rotationally grinding sound when under load.

My mechanic has two estates a 2ltr manual and a vr4 manual drove both, ok but cramped and quite dated, a bit old hat and rattly.

Yeah, its got about the same space as my 5 series, ive never heard a 8g galant be called cramped

Also, the auto/tip in the vr4 is a good bit better than the boggo auto's in the lower models

Hmm, did not think of that issue.

Not an issue for me, I'm 5ft5...

I'm not really that interested in an automatic, manual only as far as I'm concerned.
