A625 Calver to Sheffield - South Yorkshire
A54 Congleton to Buxton - Derbyshire
A581 Rufford to Chorley - Lancashire
A5004 Whaley Bridge to Buxton - Derbyshire

A285 Chichester to Petworth - West Sussex

:o

'The most improved road was named as the A40 between Llandovery and Carmarthen.

Improved junctions and markings, along with resurfacing with high friction, anti-skid treatments, saw the number of serious accidents fell from 27 between 2003 and 2005 to seven in the following three years.'

Spend a little now, save a lot in the long run.

Just don't start making speed limits lower, it does nothing and causes confusion!

Ah - the A537 - otherwise known as the Cat and Fiddle - had many an epic drive over that road in the Westfield. The bikers on it though are nuts (and usually the ones through hedges!).

Yup, I wouldn't say it's a case of blame Northern drivers - this road in particular attracts people from all over.

Indeed - you could say that lack of familiarity doesn't help either.

Some of the holiday makers driving round the Lakes at the moment are simply terrible and very dangerous!

Wow. Driven half of those in my old 200sx.

Massive volume of traffic on those old windey nsl roads. Theres no arguing that they dont have a modern design with high visibility corners, but I wonder if they are intrinsically more dangerous by layout rather than other factors.

Could be because we have better roads and more people try to drive them enthusiatically and therefore cause more accidents ;)

Or as above, the southern fairies are coming up and see a twisty road and have no idea what that big round thing does infront of them :p

So many excuses :(

Just been looking at photos of this road and it looks...breathtaking. I'd love to drive it one day.

Unfortunately, it seems like nutter motorcyclists are ruining it for everyone else - the council has announced that they're introducing average speed cameras along the route. Will probably be a 30mph limit by the time i get to drive it :(

Apparently, with motorcyclist deaths excluded, it becomes one of the safest roads in the country.

I drive the A573 at 2am - absolute riot at that time and no soft prissy fair weather motorcyclists out at that time :-)

Derbyshire roads are awesome, but some people treat them like rally courses and inevitably end up in the ditch. I love driving around here, the roads are great! Oh, and Derbyshire is not northern - we're East Midlands :p

Bosley to Buxton is the better road anyways;

Please note this "wasn't me" and the car didn't leave the road once, twice or even three times...

Really really great drivers road!

the northern monkeys drive a million times better than any of the southerners do.

driving in essex has to be comparable with driving in mumbi

leicester is much the same.

They all drive like they are on a mission.

Lopez noticed this also when he moved into leicester so its not just me !

to be fair, Northerners have the best roads to drive on (for fun) its all boring down here.

I've done 2 of those top 10 roads... Maybe i should look at the others.

Agreed on the first point. :(

Also thinking I might need to pay them a visit. ;) OcUK driving meet?

i personally think youll find great roads anywhere.

some of the best ive found were around lincolnshire. top gear apparently tested the 997 turbo there for the show, i took my other halfs brother out for a run in the golf round those roads once and they were epic
