Hi all

Looking at the 5850s - is there a 'sweet spot' in the current range?

Some seem to still have the reference 'box' design where as others now have custom coolers.

I was looking at this one in particular:

HIS iCooler V ATI Radeon HD 5850 1024MB

I'm struggling to find reviews of this non-turbo version.

I'm guessing its basically a non oc'd version of the Modern Warfare 2 iCooler 5850 Turbo?

Or are there others to look at? I'm after quietness + decent cooling, not looking to crossfire or oc.

Thanks for the help :)

Well i got the same card last week and im very happy with it havent overclocked it but is very very quiet upto about 55% fan speed which it rarely ever gets to.
I read the reviews of the turbo version and decided it would be a great card and hasnt dissapointed me so far :)
There is the asus cu versions which seem have good quiet coolers but i decided it wasnt worth the extra cash for the tweaking options i wouldnt really use.

I took delivery of the normal Sapphire HD 5850 including MW2 voucher, after OC'ers ran out of the cheaper one on special 2 weeks ago. Probably similar story to the above but it's quiet have I have no complaints so far. For reference sat in Windows 7 it's running at 38 degrees and fan speed on 21% according to ATI Overdrive (Cat 10.6).

Out of interest the cooler on my 5850 card looks like the non-MW2 voucher card (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-215-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=411) and not the one pictured with MW2.

Direct CU owner here. the cooler is very quiet a stock and with a mild OC (even underload) but top it out with 950/1250+ OC the fan will ramp up a fair bit , oddly i found even a memory OC will increase the core temps 3 or 4c maybe its becuse of the lack of ram sinks ?

good card regardless I would recommend it eps as it has voltage tweak as well

+1 for the ASUS Direct CU.

It is is only £22 more expensive than the cheapest 5850 on OCUK. It comes with a 3 year warranty (1 more year than all the others), has a custom cooler that is a fair bit better than the stock one and is good for overclocking due to "voltage tweak".

The price of the 465 is ridiculous considering the performance it gives unfortunatly, if it was competition for the 5850 ati would have dropped their prices :(
