Hi, just wondering if anyone knows what size the stock fan is on the Phenom 2 processor/heatsink. It's the one that snaps into the black plastic frame. I'd measure it myself but I'm not sure if they are measured by the frame size or the fan diameter.

Also can anyone recommend a decent , quiet replacement until I get watercooling ?, the stock fan has an unbearable whine even with q-fan enabled. Just a decent replacement fan will do, I dont really want an entire new aircooler unit as I'm getting a h50 or coolit eco asap.

Cheers

yeah it'll be binned in a few weeks though when I get my H50. I only want one as a quiet stop gap until then really.

well I'm ordering a new case so thought I may as well get a new fan while I'm at it. I've heard good things about the H-50 and the results next to air coolers seem to suggest it's a good bit of kit. Besides, I'm not keen on the sheer size and uglyness of gigantic aircooling heatsinks like the V8/10 etc.

The H50 is well behind air coolers of a similar price, and i don't know where you got the noise thing from. Both types of cooler use similar fans, depending on make and model. The H50 just has a pump to add to the noise level too.

hmmm may have to have a rethink then. The coolit eco gets great reviews from what I've read. I just like the low profile option a hybrid cooler gives rather than a huge heatsink taking up airspace in the case for the rest of the components to suffer.

Airspace? You going to be flying around in there like?

Still, nobody has had airflow problems just because they use an air cooler. It can even help, having a fan in the middle rather than just at the ends of the case.

yeah and covering up the ram modules, thats if a big size cooler would even fit. The coolit gives 23-25 degree temps at idle which sounds good to me and is very low profile giving me plenty of good air circulation for the rest of the components to benefit from.
