Hi guys,

This got hit today

nice.jpg

Now whilst I jumped for joy as the potential death of a 206CC which blows more bulbs than a country wide power surge we need to think about a potential replacement.

Now on the hopeful basis that it gets written off as its bent the rear panel and the fact it's been nothing but a pain in the arse.

What's available for 2-4k thats similar?

Requirements:

Reliable
Vert hard top. The hard top part is essential or no convertible at all (due to where she lives)

If possible, looks good :)

So what's available? was a mk1 mx5 available with a hard top at all? Otherwise I don't really know :p

Cheers guys,
Jake

That doesn't look like a write off to me

The bottom looks fairly intact, might just need a new door and rear quarter panel.

Though there is a lot of air between the camera and the car so I can't see properly :D

I believe you can get an optional hard top for the MX5.. but it's not a self folding one, you have to remove it yourself so not exactly practical. That said, if she likes the MX5 then it's still the same car, just imagine it was never a convertible at all...

There is nothing else for the money with this roof. The 206CC was only the second mainstream car released with a roof like this, the other being the SLK which you wont get for 2-4k.

You will now get a plethora of people recommending MX5's and E36 3 Series because they had a hard top - which they did, but it takes 30 minutes to remove by hand and requires storage when not in use, so more for winter use rather than as a solution to having convertible but living in the ghetto.

Indeed, I did tell the stupid bitch to clean the air, but like a typical woman, she didn't listen.

Hmm ok, and is the hard top storable within the car?

Ah, Fox just answered my question. Cheers dude. I know someone selling a 328 E36 with a hard top, but again, didn't know if it was storable. Plus it'd probably have the wheels nicked where she lives!

Where she lives isn't THAT bad, but she did have her roof slashed last time she had a soft-top! Hence the need for a hard-top really.

Forget the idea of an MX5 with a hard top. It's not something you quickly remove. It also takes two people to lift one off.

Where does she live exactly? Does the area have a history of Convertible cars being damaged?

I live in truly a horrendous area, but wouldn't think twice about buying a car with a convertible roof if I wanted one. I just don't see the concern.

East Tilbury, Essex.

I think that because she had one before and had the roof slash and the interior annihilated when I suggested a soft top I got a flat rate 'no' :p

That's the end of that idea. Shame, a 1.6 MK5 would've been perfect for her otherwise :(

At least she's got some sort of justfication as it has happened before, but it is still something that I don't understand. If someone wants to vandalise your car, they'll do it regardless of the roof configuration.

Indeed, she's still in a bit of shock, let's see if that thing gets written off first and go from there!

It still is

Make her realise. :p

Hah, I have enough trouble with her letting me treat her anyway, trying to convince her to get another soft top will be no small feat, and may require alcohol.

I'll do it. And she won't buy yours, it'll have to be a black car!

Renault Megane IIs and the Daihatsu Copen also come with folding hard-tops but again are the wrong side of £4000.

Unless you want to buy a Cat C :p

When I was poking about at convertibles before I bought my sheddy MX5 I noted a few late 90's and early 2000 SLKs at sub 4k. Whether you'd want one is another question. In fact:

Just a random pluck from PH.

How about the latest shape MR2? It will be the top end of the budget but supposed to be quite a hoot to drive. Looks are a bit...er... subjective though :D
