Lock On:Flaming Cliffs 2.0 coming Jan 2010

A few tips - Use your zoom, looking out of the cockpit (real A-10 pilots use binoculars). If your target or other ground object you spot is taller than it is wide, it's a SAM. Identifying friend or foe is usually down to understanding your briefing and knowing where the enemy is likely to be. Also, use the encyclopaedia to learn to distinguish between Vehicle types.

How about some battlefield tactics from a Former A-10 pilot?

Hog Basics: RAF Bentwaters Tactics Guide, 1982

Thanks - very cool, after reading that I bought a few books:

Fighter combat tactics and maneuvering (never know it maybe helpful!)
Warthog: Flying the A-10 in the Gulf War
Strike Eagle: Flying the F-15E in the Gulf War

last two purely out of interest, cant go wrong for a tenner! :D

That "Fighter combat tactics and manoeuvring" book, if it's by Shaw, is pretty much the bible for fighter combat the world over. Good purchase.

I can also recommend "Apache" by Ed Macy and "Chickenhawk" by Robert Mason, for Helo Side of things. Chickenhawk in particular is very good.

Both brilliant books. I liked Mason's anecdote regaling the tale of the first UH-1 to suffer battle damage in Vietnam. It was in fact his own, his gun-mad crew chief had been tinkering with his issue Colt M1911A1 sidearm to make the trigger break lighter, resulting in Mason accidentally shooting his own instrument panel with it while his crew chief was showing off his handiwork.

Hey Nate, thanks for your reply in the FSX thread - I did see it, cheers

What games are you playing at the moment - do you mostly play flightsims? and are you in any flightsim guilds or virtual airlines etc?

Just wondering if you could recommend any thats all

Cheers

FSX thread? Twas not I. I never really got on with FSX (couldn't activate the thing for a start  ) and I like to blow stuff up :)

Yeah, I'm mostly a flight sim nut, but I still play other games that are good (eg Supreme Commander FA, X3:TC, Live for Speed, TF2, ARMA2, Just Cause). I've never joined an online Squad, I'm happy be left to my own devices, which usually ends in a fiery death online :) .

If you're looking for some online squads to fly with in Lock On or DCS have a look at this thread on the ED forums. Also ask around on the Multiplayer Servers to see who's recruiting.
