Well, actually, just something a bit better than what i have right now.

I have a nice little Ford Fiesta, but unfortunately the driver side speakers don't work very well.

Can anyone spec an upgrade from the factory standard speakers? It's a Ford Fiesta Mk 4.5 W reg if that helps.

I haven't got a scoob about speakers, so your help would be much appreciated!

I'm not looking for 2000 Watt sound systems and subwoofers to vibrate my face off. Just a nice wee upgrade that doesn't look unsightly.

Ta much!

helpful as comment as allways ^^

im sure if you get a better head unit with a chip (or something along those lines) it will improve your sound quality, and more so that you can upgrade the door speakers relatively easy if you find something that fits in the same space!

I would imagine he means a better DAC :p

Better head unit (spend a decent amount on this!) and some front components are probably the best upgrade. :)

What's your budget?

I'd probably say go for £200 on the HU and £100 on the components and you'll have a nice sounding system.

I recently put some new FLI components (£45) and some new co-ax speakers into the parcel shelf (£25) with an amp for the fronts off of an auction site (£20). It all sounds great and I've never done anything like it before! I had to make speaker mounts out of MDF for the fronts which was a completely new experience too, bought a jigsaw from homebase for a tenner and cut them to size, screwed it all in and spliced some wires and there we go.

Its quite simple to do yourself but make sure you get all the sizes right and be prepared to improvise a bit.

Thanks for all the replies. The headunit that I got from the car is the Sony CDX-GT44IP it's not a bad little unit, but the original speakers are very crackly at higher volume.

Just to clarify, I've got the facelift Mk IV Fiesta, not the newer Mk V.

Can anyone recommend a place to buy some front components? My first obvious answer would be Halfords, but being a large chain store, they'd be expensive?

Ta much!

No, you have a MK5.

Wikipedia is incorrect. Stick MK5 Fiesta in google images and you'll see what I mean ;)

I've bought from caraudiodirect before, but it's always good to go to halfords and listen to some, find one you like then buy online for less :)

was in local halfords looking at iPhone compatible head units and the bloke running the Car audio section actually said "you'd be better looking online since you can get it cheaper"

You have a decent head unit, so just upgrade the door speakers like you have already said.

If that upgrade is still not enough then either replace the rear speakers or fit some 3-ways to the parcel shelf. This will provide all the bass and clear sound you will need if you don't want to vibrate your face off.

Do a search for a local independent audio shop, they will let you know the exact size you need and will be much cheaper than most chains. They will even fit them for you, although you should be able to swap spaekers yourself with ease.

Thanks all for the good advice. My wee Fiesta doesn't have rear speakers, so front components and tweeters for the door handles will do just nicely. I'll have a look at caraudiodirect. I'm not looking to spend a lot of money, just something to hear some music while on the motorway :)

I have that car, and I got some speakers from Halfords. I had to cutout a hole in the door panel where the speaker will sit and make four screw holes. Also had to make the tweeter holes bigger by using a stanley knife.
I got these, probably not the best but certainly better than the stock ones. I also got a 10" sub enclosure Edge aswell.

Remove rear speakers, decent components + amp in front. A decent headunit.
Possibly a small sub in the rear and some soundproofing.

Thats what I tend to do, you can achieve it for a few hundred if you really wanted.
