Rise of Flight: Iron Cross Edition

sounds like a big patch to me, im sure the original will get most of these features accept the free planes perhaps.

You know this game is ww1 compared to wings of prey which i think is purely ww2.

I've been quite tempted by this a number of times for some fun ww1 action, it looks a very good game.

The link I mentioned will probably ship to Europe. I think the european edition is to follow shortly.

Do you own the original version Nate?

It's just the game that already exists with the additional aircraft (which are all on sale for current owners at the moment) included so that new users can buy the lot in one easy package, there is no differrence between this and the original Rise of Flight otherwise.

I've had it for a while now and can safely say it's one of my least played sims ever, it takes an age to load anything, performance isn't very good, graphics shimmering is just awful and no amount of tweaking has fixed it as yet.

I rapidly went back to IL2.

Interesting, this is even with the latest patches and such?

Nate

Sounds like its worth holding off for something else. I think once Storm of War comes I won't need any other sim.

Quoted for truth!

I really wanted to get Rise of Flight , but the DRM feels like the dev is
giving you the 2 fingered salute , ditch the DRM and I will buy it ....

Yup, and it's worse if you're running W7 on dual core cpu's, something to do with the way W7 manages multicores apparently and unfixable, neoqb's fix was to tell us to upgrade to quad cores or live with it...

The sim feels very unsmooth, unlike IL2 or WoP.

I know this is a long dead thread but seeing as it was left on a downer I thought I'd follow up.

You really should check out ROF, it's amazing.

Performance is now great, lots fixed and new features. Although you really do benefit from a Quad if you're running Windows7 (XP is fine with Dual).

There is a Demo so you can try it free for 2 weeks.

I love it because it's close up, and really becomes a battle of wits and you try to gain the upper hand. It looks amazing (nothing touches this currently), Great FM and DM too. AI is pretty sweet and convincing and online really fun.

They are constantly updating and adding new features for free and there is a great community. Check it out at riseofflight.com if you are at all interested in Flight sims.

Oh and the Online DRM requirement has been removed (not that I ever had an issue with it).

well i got a 286mb update to do then i will give it another try! i got this day of release, rapidly got bored with the awful loading times. esp when you are trying to learn, and so keep piling your crate up, i was loading more than flying. This is with spec in sig.

When playing though it was brilliant! Possibly need an ssd? or patiance

I think the loading times are due to the main map being massive 125x125 KM. There are 2 other smaller maps which are mainly used for online dogfighting that are 64x64km (which is still plenty to be getting on with) but I tend to use them anyway for practice and with them it will load up in about 15 seconds.

Its just the cost of it all.You buy the game then have to fork out more for the decent planes and now bombers.Great game let down buy the cost of planes.

yes but you don't have to buy all the planes. The ones you get with are more than capable and that shouldn't really be a reason to avoid. You can always add single planes one at a time over a period to add new challenges etc. In fact you are better to pick a single plane and learn to fly that properly, something that will take a long time.

Each new plane is £5 which ok might sound a bit but when you consider the amount of detail and how completely different some of the planes are (hi res cockpits, different handling and performance etc) and compare that to what a coffee in Starbucks costs (~£2.50), it's only a couple of those.

At the end of the day it's completely upto you if you like it or not, but if you not checked it out yet (or not looked at it in a while) please try the demo and give it another shot, you might be surprised.
