Front end respray costs

I've noticed that the front end of my car is becoming pretty tatty now, the front bumper has pealing lacquer and the bonet has around 120 stone chips (yes I counted). I popped into vauxhall while looking at the Monaro there and they quoted me £725 for a bonnet and bumper spray with the bonet blended into the wings. This seems pretty high as I was expecting to pay around £400 for a good job.

The bill for my front end came to a total of just under £1000. This was for:

Front Bumper
Both front wings
Bonnet
Blending with both front doors.

Ok so it's not widly off then. My main concern is the peeling lacquer though. I don't want to spend more than £400 really as it's up for sale.

Get some quotes obviously if you have't already tried.

Will be getting my front bumper done and think I was quoted about £150ish from a well regarded speciailst. Note, cutting, welding, filling, and spraying both rear quarters to fix my arches cost about £450-500.

Dont forget that finding somebody who is even half decent at spraying is very hard. Most people in the motor trade are either dishonest, clueless, inept or a combination of all three. Never, ever, ever get work done by the lowest bidder.

A reputable local body shop will give you a much better price. Ask around for people with experiences.

I paid 700 for the same amount of spraying on one of my old cars but that included a new bonnet and headlight!

Unless the lowest bidder is highly recommended and you have already had excellent work done by them ;) But generally in the world these days I agree that the lowest bidder usually isn't a great idea unless you have experience.

Iaind, why the VTEC in your sig, not buying a decent car finally are you?

I thought the accord exec models had the pants eco "vtec" which doesnt actually do anything, other than play off the name of the proper vtec system?

No, he thinks his Accord 1.8 is a Type R :p

Sarcasm fail.

I asked about it in another thread and Clarkey gave quite a good explanation.

IIRC, the VTEC-E restricts the lift until a certain RPM. I've never driven a real VTEC in anger, but there's definitely a notieceable change at about 4000rpm. I'm sure the proper one is much more noticeable though.

But yeh, sarcasm :) It rarely gets driven over 4k anyway, no point.

Anyway, thats derailing the thread quite badly!

Avoid the bulk insurance respray shops etc, they are pretty poor in quality and attention to detail, pick up any specialist mag and see if one of the articles reccomends a paint shop near you

Are you seeing huge economy gains from the new car Iain?

Really this nonsense doesnt belong in princey's thread, it's not very fair on him as he was looking for help. If you want to know, click "Find all threads started by IainD" and ask in one of my threads
