No tax, Car removed, Now what?

Send them a copy of the letter you sent many months ago telling them you sold it / transferred it to the ex b/f, works, you don't have to send a V5 in to transfer a vehicle or let the DVLA know you sold it.

If they have removed it in under 24 hours, and you can prove it, then they havent complied with the regulations and may well drop it.

The driver is right and you can declare that you are no longer the owner of the vehicle, and it will be crushed or sold. I'm not entirely sure if ou still have to pay anything though!

the DVLA did get phone calls about the whole issue a few weeks ago, they said we would have to declare it SORN, however we couldn't do that as it was on road and we had no way of moving it.

No one would take it and scrap it without the logbook or keys, we could have got a replacement logbook but without keys they still wouldn't have taken it. This is a right mess!

Why would they not have taken it just because they didn't have the keys?

Because then it's more of a hassle getting it onto the back of a lorry and treating it when they get it back to their yards.

There is no actual legal requirement to present the V5 log book when scrapping a car, although a lot of places will ask for one so they can be sure you havent just nicked someones car and weighed it in straight away!
