estimated delivery or first class delivery expectation?

Alright,

I ordered something from a big online retailer yesterday(not computer/hardware related but it doesn't matter from where). At the checkout I chose 1st class delivery because it said up to 2 business days - assuming that since I ordered it on Wed then it should arrive the latest by Friday. However, it also had underneath a quote saying "estimated delivery 5 July", i.e. Monday.

Which one would you hold the retailer on to? I think I should expect them to honour the 1st class delivery expectation as if I wanted it on the 5th then I would have chosen a cheaper delivery option which was up to 5 business days.

I am curious on what side the people here would sit.

Well if you ordered yesterday, if it got posted today it will be Monday probably. Maybe Friday depending on what time you ordered.

Well that's the thing, I ordered it yesterday and it said "1st class - up to 2 business days", therefore I would expect it to be posted today and arrive tomorrow. Isn't that correct?

I am not sure why they say "estimated delivery 5th July", perhaps for contingency reasons - but I don't care about that. Since I am paying extra for up to 2 business days I expect exactly that.

Am I wrong in thinking like that?
 
Well what time did you order.

Also then it is on the royal mail to see how quick they get it done.

Actually, didn't know this but on the royal mail website "One of the most popular postal services, First Class mail aims to deliver your letter or packet the next working day, including Saturday." Thought it was more like 2-3.
In that case i would expect it to be there on Friday but from my experience it takes 2-3days.
 
That is the delivery time of 2 business days for first class delivery . But this does not take into account the handling time. So it could be 3-4 days handling and then the 2 days delivery.

But that doesn't make sense as the handling time could be anything then. I took it as the total time from order taking to delivery.
 
Check some other items from the same site. I know of a mobile phone retailer where certain phones will give a delivery date similar to what you have been given meaning that the item isn't in stock.

If it was at night most likely it missed the collection service of the items being sent out so. It being sent today it will slow the order down.

its like if you buy an item and pay for next day (ocuk do it for free ;) ) but it will have to be before 'x' hour. I think ocuk's is like 6pm. Not the best example but without them sending it before 'x' time to get it collected it will take longer
 
I see your point, well I want to hope that I'll have it by tomorrow or Sat the worst. I really need it!!!!!
 
If you ordered after the cutoff for their 1st class collection it will go in the next days batch. 2 days from date of posting is what they have sold you. Not 2 days from point of order. Annoying I know but anyone who sells items knows that sending things via RM is a pain. Courier services far more reliable as their collections are usually later.

I would expect them to have it in there terms and conditions. This will take into account heavy volume of orders, maybe waiting for stock etc. Most good companies will get it out the same day or the next day. But the actual delivery time from them posting it to you receiving it will be 1-2 days.
