another spec mee for uni! (1400£ budget)

It was from a X58 motherboard lab-test by bit-tech. It's not shown in the link you posted, sorry that I didn't make it clearer.

The minimum 42fps result was for i7 with Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R with a 5870.

at a maximum speed of 4.4ghz- http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/motherboards/2010/05/07/gigabyte-ga-x58a-ud3r-motherboard-review/2

which is higher than that crysis link, which has the i5 750 just 2fps slower than the 920/930 at 4.15/4.08/4.3ghz respectively, the results cant be compared between the two different reviews

This is however done on the Asus P6TD Deluxe, not the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R. The motherboard is the factor for the difference in minimum fps.

Also do note that the frame rate is the identical for Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition 4.72GHZ, 4.4GHZ and 3.33GHz with the 5870. Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition at 3.99GHz is fair bit lower on frame rate, even if comparing to i7 930 at stock speed 2.8GHz, so I'm guessing it is to do with architecture performance difference.

This is getting ridiculous. No offense stulid I would love to discuss further but I don't want to hijack supergt's thread any further, and I don't know what point are you trying to make here.

You want to say Phenom II X6 1090T is faster and better than the i7 920 for gaming is that it?

I got nothing against AMD CPUs...Phenom II range has some really nice CPU at low price making them ideal for people on a tight budget, but when it comes to performance for gaming their frame rate would always be lower when using with high end graphic card in slightly more CPU demanding games. I think this alone is enough of an evidence to show which is better:

Phenom II X6 1090T at 4.0GHz would be identical to Phenom II X4 955BE/965BE at 4.0GHz performance at best, unless games would make good uses of the extra cores, which I doubt would become common standard anytime soon.

Sorry for hijacking your thread. Although I am unbiased when it comes to Intel or AMD, Nvidia or ATI, lots of people here on OcUK forum however would be leaning toward one side more than the other. I think it would be best you do a little more research and decide what build you would prefer yourself.

Also, forgot to mention that it is rumored that the AMD Bullozor that's going to be released next year is going to be compatable with the current range of AMD boards (compatable not necessarily mean decent overclockable), while the socket 1366 would be going EOL. But that probably doesn't really relate to you if you are going to use the new rig for the next 3 years

blah blah

Im not trying to make a point that the 1090T is faster, just said theres nothing much in it.

Redmint asked for charts for the overclocked i5 vs i7, i linked to them, again nothing in it,1-2fps

you then sprout some rubbish about 42fps minimum, which I ask for where? you finally provide a link, to a different review with different overclock settings.

and you have gone back and edited your posts, to make them look less FAIL.

I quoted the link to the X3: Terran Conflict instead of the link to the Crysis from by mistake because both were in the same post, and I corrected the link from X3 back to Crysis that's all.

Just to quote this:
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/motherboards/2010/05/07/gigabyte-ga-x58a-ud3r-motherboard-review/5
As far as I know the minimum frame rate with the overclocked i7 980X, as well as other i7 chips are more to do with motherboard speed/performance.

I also only just noticed the Crysis results from the i7 980X review on bit-tech dated 11 March saying the bench is was ran with 2xAA, however when the review went to the press in Custom PC May issue (release in April), they listed the exact same frame rate results for all the i7 chips at the same clock/frequency settings also on the Asus P6TD Deluxe, BUT they are listed as result for 0xAA.

So bit-tech either messed up on their AA value for web review, or they listed 0xAA by mistake in Custom PC.
