Venomous X or Corsair H50?

They will probably perform around the same, depending on fans and paste, but the h50 will be much smaller therefore putting less stress on your mb.

Sorry miss read thought you wrote venom.... as in the akasa... Go with the VX.. And a Apache Black 120 fan.

wow that surprises me. The H50 has had such high praise.
Also looking at Megahalems air cooler too...

like previous person mentioned, I am concerned about wieght of metal cooler that size placing a downwards force on the bracket and mobo.

Corasir H50 is much smaller and looks as if it shifts the heat throughthe tubes and out the case.... but if it is not as good then there is not much point in using it.

There's really no worry about the weight. The mounting system for these large heatsinks have been carefully designed to cope with the weight and unless you'll be transporting the case around a lot, there is really no issue.

The H50 fan also acts as an intake fan and does improve performance but that may hinder the airflow in your case so you would have to think about where to install it.

From the benchmark results I posted, I would definitely go with the Thermalright VX.

was going to add additional fans for push/pull with the h50.

Do you have a link to the benchmarks?

One thing Helios is that in your review the difference between the VX and Mega is the greatest I have seen. Especially as the TRUE is beating the Mega. Thought the Mega only performed a couple of degrees worse than the VX?

I was quite surprised as well but it goes to show just how good the Thermalright coolers are. I can't say why that may be but at the time I didn't have higher RPM fans to test it with and I know some people claim it favours such fans.

One thing to note though is that other reviews fail to look at delta temperatures so that could be why the difference is greater on my results.

I still prefer the VX though, it was easier to install on top of it.

Ended up getting a good deal on a megahalem.
My supplier was out of stock on VX

Nice one :D

Not long had a megahalems on my P5Q-E - love the fitting system and with two Yate Loons D12SH-12 the load temps are extremely low :) (currently hitting 55C max in Real Temp with a ambient of 26.5C - thats a E8400 @ 4094MHz - 1.34v)

As I have a top vent, I rotated mine 90 degrees and fitted the fans push/pull across the megahalem.

dlknight, perhaps you can help me.
I still cant power my mobo.... as you have the same one can you confirm that the only 12v power connectors are the 24pin block and the 8pin (4+4) block up at the top left of the board. Have I missed any other essential connections that would stop the board from powering on?

Thanks

Owing both, the VX will perform better than the Stock Noctua, with good fans, however this is significantly noisier and not a whole lot better (3-4C at best?)

that's very debatable from all the reviews I've read, some get better with the venomous X, others get better with the D14, although iirc the VX does better than the D14 when higher voltages are used

From my own tests, I find the Noctua to be marginally better with the same fan configurations. But you do get the freedom of buying your own fans with the VX.
