MK1 MX5's - tell meee!

Oh yeah, everyone stopped replying after I wrote an essay in the first thread there :(

People ask questions that have already been asked, and when you go out of your way they are not bothered.

I think the definitive answer should be

Go to MX5 Nutz/OC or Miata.net.
Click search
Type what you are looking for.

It is all there.

Miata.net is a far better source of info (www.miata.net/garage) , as is the MX5 section on Pistonheads. I find Nutz to be much like most single make/model forums, full of chavvy types spouting misinformation

Eunos = import, yep. Your friend might find her insurance is a bit higher for an import vs a UK model, so maybe check first? Obviously if she has such experience that it only costs £300 to insure a car like this then it's not so much of an issue!

You'll find that *generally* the imports have more in the way of equipment - air con, fancier (although early 90s so still pretty crap lol) audio systems, leather interior, lowered suspension, limited edition versions with different wheels/interior trim, etc. But the cars will generally have patchier service history. The mechanics are identical on them

Except that UK 1.6s after 1995 were detuned to 90 bhp from 115. This isn't the case for imports.

It isn't too bad, lots of DIY stuff on there ala Mini SC.

Miata.net is just as bad as soon as you step outside the technical forums.

There were no 1.6 imports after 1993/4.

And it was UK 1.6s after 1993/4, which had 88bhp.

They were not detuned, they had different cams, compression rates etc.

Get one, i thought they were gay until the missus bought one, but they are brilliant fun to drive, especially around the highlands!

They make excellent cars to be butchered and stripped as donors to build a Westfield out of (the 1.8 variety especially) :-)

Considered getting the Honda equivalent the CRX/Del Sol? In 1.6 VTI/Sir form it's a lot faster than the MX5, does the same MPG out of VTEC, has an electric hard top yet its front wheel drive so kinder to the lady driver and better for winter which is what swung me over the MX5 :P. They are about the same weight if you get one with the manual targa top and it has a massive boot.

Small peice of advice regarding mx5's if you ever need to go to coventry, regardless of how slow you drive the roads there are **** and subsequently break mx5's steering racks :(

but now you are saying this is fine ?

confused post is confused.

*facepalm*

This is a womans logic, and if you read the thread you'll see she's warmed to the idea since finding out she can get a hard top for it. :p
