After the iPhone 2G being my sole phone for the past 2 and a half years, I just upgraded to the iPhone 3G yesterday. What a world of difference - call quality is so so so much better, the screen is warmer in colours, much better speaker where I can properly hear phone calls and it doesn't sound like a vibrating machine which the 2G did. Oh, and the best part? Having a 3G connection! I have had excitement similar to when i first got broadband installed! LOL!

I know I'm still 2 generations behind, but this 3G that I've just acquired, I think it runs pretty fast! I did try the iPhone 4 in the Apple store and was blown away, but was out of my price range.

Anyone else still holding onto their 3G? Seems like most people are selling up and moving on?

Won't be getting rid of my iPhone 3G until the next WWDC conference :) Still runs everything I need and the battery life is acceptable. It's worth more to me than the £160 I'd get for it through a phone recycling website.

Be wary that quite a lot of 3G users (including myself for a bit) felt that iOS 4.0 made their iPhones quite slow and laggy to use.

Ditto. ;)

And I also think I will hang onto my iPhone 3G for a while. I am sure an iPhone 4 is great and everything but I might just wait until the next update of the new iPhone just to get a my monies worth out of the 3G. :)

I've been given a 3G with a battery that lasts for 10 minutes and a broken screen. eBay will provide me a screen for £8 and a battery for £4. My daughter will love it once I've fixed it :)

IMHO iOS4 on the 3G feels very responsive and nice compared to 3.x on the 2G. Glad to see people aren't giving them up just yet! Loving some of the features on iOS4, shame quite a few of them are locked out on the 3g which would have made sense to have...orientation lock, custom backgrounds etc. Ah well! :p

Nice one feek! I thought the screens were pretty expensive!

I'm still using my iPhone 2g! Although I may hold off on an iPhone 4, seems like there are a lot of issues at the moment. If anyone has a spare 3g/3gs i'll take it though :)

The battery I'm fitting is allegedly 1800mAh - I think the 3G came with an 1150mAh battery so it should last significantly longer.

And no, the 2G and 3G are quite different internally.

ollyteal - already used to that with the 2G so doesn't bother me too much - it's just something I take as a fact of life for the current time that I have to plug my phone in every night :)

hyper_piper45 - woah, still on the good old first one :-) I don't think you'll find 3g/s for spares, they are still amazing!

Confused - WOOHOO! I'm glad I'm not the only one! Is it me or does the screen feel smoother than the 2g?!!?!

Feek - ooo...this does actually sound tempting to upgrade the battery. The 3G has some screws on the bottom which the 2g didn't have....let us know how long it lasts for on a charge! :)

My 3G also seems to be quicker with IOS4 on it.

I have to charge mine every night now.

quicker, seriously?? jeez mine now runs like a dog and the battery barely lasts a day even with the most minimal use. worked like a treat before iOS4- if i dont get my iphone 4 before the weekend an OS roll back will be taking place

is it much of a job changing the battery?, cause if i could get a new battery in there i could give my 3g to the bird. save her bending my ear about getting her a new phone just cause i'm getting iphone 4-damn women :mad:

Still rocking my 3g. Its been in a switcheasy rebel all its life as was going to sell it Im now thinking about letting it out as can upgrade at anytime. putting on ios4 on for a gander later.

I'm quite the opposite, my phone feels snappier since ios4.

I am also in the same boat as many a 3g owner. Yes I would like my phone to be a little faster, but it is no way worth the extra money to upgrade to the 3gs or 4g for more ram. In all honesty what is the actual point in upgrading to the 4g from the 3g?

I havent come across a quintessential app I need a 4g for. In fact I would dare say all the truly useful apps are going to support all standards.

I'm in the same boat. iOS4.0 has definitely slowed down my 3G, not disastrously so, but enough to be a bit annoying. Still worth the upgrade though.

I'm going to stick with my 3G for the time being. While the new iphone certainly has lots of nice new features, there is nothing on offer that would justify the upgrade cost to me. If I was still using my original iphone, I'd make the jump. I hate contracts, so I know I'd end up going for the unlocked version direct from apple, I just cant justify £600 at the moment. If I'm lucky my 3G might break!

Shame I managed to break one of the connectors. It all appears to be working, it's just that I've got no display :(

Put IOS 4 on my 3G and it basically broke the phone, it was unusable with the new OS. Fortunately we had a couple of 3GS sitting around and it works again.
