My 5850 came today, but problems are here.

Just turned my speakers on via the plug...Computer turned of. I tried to turn it back on, and it wouldn't...So i plugged it out of the wall and back in, and it booted...This is very odd.

Hey there, I don't think it's a power issue but its always good to make sure. Since soon after release, I have been running the 5850 and an overclocked q6600 on a coolermaster 460 with 2x18a 12v rails. What board is it you have?

If it works fine with your 4850 but not the 5850 then it's not the psu, and that psu should be fine to power the 5850. I havent updated my sig yet as I have a new psu but remove the 9600GT and all of that ran fine on the 500W psu.

So it's either a duff 5850 or an incompatibility, remove all the cards you can except the 5850, if it still happens it's a duff 5850 or it's incompatible with your m/b

I suggested you updated your m/b bios to latest, has this been done yet?

i had same problem with my old Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P board. everytime i turn a wall plug on even in a different room,,, the system would reboot by it self.

what im thinking it could have been that the motherboard wasn't siting right...

What do you mean by remove all cards except the 5850?

Also, where do i update my Bios? When i go to the Asus site and have a look, there's lots of updates...Do i just download them all?

Make sure all connections to devices, drives, HDDs, RAM etc... are all plugged in as they should be, even if they look fine just double check everything and push them into their places again.

One way to find out if it is a PSU power issue is to unplug/remove anything which you can do without, such as optical drive/s, external usb devices (ipods, phones, Ext HDDs etc..) any additional HDDs and try that.

Did you try my suggestion above because if its defaulting to onboard VGA this is why you arent getting a display from the 5850

Get the latest BIOS update for your motherboard. They should be dated with version numbers. Avoid flashing your BIOS via any Windows applications.

Cheers. I contacted OCUK, and they say...

Are you sure you are not overloading the PSU? 600W is not that powerful to be running a 5850?

Regards,

They are true with what they say, 600W is fine but then it also depends on whether you have anything overclocked, number of optical drives & HDDs, USB devices etc... these all require power too.

I would suggest you try it with the bare minimum required to get your machine running and just the 5850.
