Tell me about Toyota MR2s

Interior isn't great?! What?! It's possibly the best I've ever had or been in. The switches feel great, the upholstery, dash, etc are also excellent and wear very well.

It's all relative - I don't know what other cars you've been in. The interior in the MR2 isn't great compared to 90% of others cars I've been in. It's nothing to get excited about and is quite bland. I'm not nocking the quality of it, though. Good thing it is a drivers car so the looks of the interior shouldn't really be too important.

hm its very fun and chuckable i have a friend with a MK1 mx5 and a friend with a 02 Toyota MR2... id have to say, the MR2 is the better car out of the two. the issue with it is that the MR2 engine in my friends consumes something like a litre of oil every month or so (common issue)

i have driven the mx5 but only ridden in the 2...but id say the 2 handles better out of the box.

Okay looks like the MR2 is the better car of the two. GT3, when you said you'd go for something more special, did you have anything in mind? Because I currently drive an Astra, everything that isn't my car looks "special" to me.

I don't mean looks wise I just mean a bit quicker because they don't set the world on fire. They are just a nice every day car. Think they are 7ish to 60, 30ish mpg, reliable, reasonable running costs etc.

I'm sorry to hijack here but i wasn't wondering what you guys think

I've been looking at mk2 mr2s for a while and am looking to maybe buy a na one in about 4 months

basically there's one for sale like 1 minute down the road
I would never buy it
is yellow, has hideous alloys that are either 17s or 16s and not staggered and has chav lights
but should I drive it purely for personal gain
or is that a bit unethical lol
also i'm not sure if it would really be a fair test of a mr2 because the alloys must effect the handling right?

Can't see why the wheels are such a sticking point, they need 17's to look good. I suppose Halfords boat anchor specials won't do it any favours though.

I'd not bother, sounds like a chav car, money spent on stick on tat and the important aging chassis components neglected. It will probably not be a true representation of how an MR2 should drive.

You need to drive a few decent quality cars then. I'm far from an interior whore, but the Mk2 interior is typical older Jap; black, bland and boring. Functional and well made certainly, but it's really not a "great" interior.

You want to retain staggered fitment on an MR2.

The mk3 I linked earlier has a pretty decent interior though. Red seats and door panels, and everything else black. Maybe not to everyone's taste, but I like it.

It's not the colour, its the styling, the feel, the general approach to the whole thing. Japanese interiors from the 90's were godawful.

Seriously, what do people really expect from a DASHBOARD?

How comes crap Dashboard design is never mentioned in threads regarding European cars? The MK1 A3 has a HORRIBLE dashboard, and yet no one has mentioned it thus far in the A3 thread knocking about.

Tbh I have no interest in interiors whatsoever I don't get why people care so much, I'm to busy staring at the road
