I'm a year into a 2 year contact with O2 and am planning on selling my iphone and replacing it with a sim free HTC Desire. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of this? My main concerns are whether or not I will have a problem running the new phone on my current account, and whether whoever I sell it to will have any problems as it's still technically my contact phone for another year.

Anyone else moved from the 3GS to the Desire?

The new phone should work fine on the new account. You are perfectly within your rights to sell contract phones.

Sorry for the hijack, but I'm in a similar situation. Have currently got a 3gs and I'm due an upgrade on another contract. Thinking about the desire, would be very interested on peoples opinions going from 3gs to desire. iPhone 4 is also a possibility, but I just feel like a bit of a change.

Iphone 4 is a bit expensive for me, and I always wanted an HTC, but last summer the Hero looked a bit dissapointing spec wise. Iphone is pretty good, just so bloody expensive, and I think I'd rather have an open source handset...

The Desire is a far better handset, especially if you want a change from the limited software :)

For more in depth opinions, do a search of this forum :p

You could reduce your contract and pay off the balance, taking you out of contract. Then instantly renew to get the Desire free on upgrade.

This is what I do. Take out a 2 year contract, at 12 months I ring up and reduce it down to£15 a month, pay off the £180 and instantly renew, then sell my old handset, as long as it goes for at least £180 you've spent no extra.

You can downgrade your contract after 12 months? Might pay it off and move to orange with HTC Desire as O2's 3G coverage is pony

That is what I have on my contract. It was 9 months on my previous contract.

Might be different with iPhone contracts, you'll have to check.

After a little bit of google searching, I think the minimum might be at least £30 for the iphone, or one 'tier' per month of downgrades. Hmm...

Would it not be a damn site cheaper to go for an 18 month contract then!
