Off to University in Spetember, need a new laptop, currently stuck between the Mac or a Vaio. Just need it for general Web browsing, Word Documents and playing a couple of games. Spending Max about £850.

Any advise would be good  :)

Cheers

The two brands on very good, but the MAC is different for me is the best option, but for you to use them, I would choose the lowest price that would be price, or if you get any offer will serve you very well vaio.

Bye Krhizna.

Well the Vaio seems to offer better spec at a lower price, but not sure if it is as reliable ect.. Need it to last 3 atleast maybe 4 years

Save yourself £300 and go for a cheaper laptop. If all your using it for is word documents and general web browsing, you really don't need an £850 laptop. Kind of like buying a ferrari to drive to the shops in everyday.

Samsung laptops are excellent and reliable, for around £300 less.

Even opt for a netbook if it's for uni. Makes carrying them around a lot easier, big laptops can take there toll on you all day with the chargers etc.

Problem with buying a cheaper one is, I want to run future Football Manager and such games on it and I think a cheaper one might become out dated to quickly?

Vaio's nice kit but on pricy side and it's just basically paying for a name.
You could easily find a laptop for slightly better spec and cheaper.
To be honest lasting 3-4 years shouldn't be a problem for any decent mid priced laptop.

Totally agree. I was looking at notebooks the other day and you're paying approx £250-300 more for a Vaio over another decent brand with the same specs.

Everyone who buys a laptop for uni never moves it. It sits in your dorm room, you don't take laptops to lectures. So buy a desktop, you'll get a lot more bang for buck - and it's much more comfortable to use for longer periods of time.

Ill be honest i paid 500 quid for my laptop nearly 4 years ago and its still going strong, for basic web browsing and games, however due to the water incident on NYE it cant play Counterstrike source anymore as it tends to throw a hissy fit and dies... but apart from that its great. Havent actually turned it off in a few days now as i access the hdd from my phone via orb when im at work, nights are so boring and its nice to have something to watch..

Oh btw mine is a dell... Dell have gotten a lot better in terms of reliability and customer service..

Infact im planning on buying a Dell Mini 10 When i go back to uni

Im still yet to have a need for a laptop in uni, you will never take them to lectures; well not to do anything productive.
