Ok, I've just got into the Blu Ray thing.

Just some opinions on great quality Blu ray films that you've watched.

I like:
War.
Action.
Sc-Fi

Ones I've just bought:

The Day After Tomorrow ---Blu rays a disaster.. Very grainy, I'm surprised, it's a fairly newish movie.

Casino Royal ---Perfect !

Matrix trilogy ---Perfect !

On order:

The Departed.

The Perfect storm.

The Ultimate Bourne collection.

The Shooter.

Stargate the film.

Watchmen.

Has anyone seen any of the above and give me some info if they are good Blu rays. And, any suggestions to good ones as well.

How do the old films compare, say from 10-20 years ago that have been put on Blu ray ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Reviews include the actual video and sound quality so a good guide. As for old films put on Blu Ray, it really depends how good of a job the company done on the transfer and original source (low budgets films suffer). I remember watching Mad Max 2 on HD-DVD and it looked really good for the age, but then Lethal Weapon didn't even look different from a DVD.

Blu rays to get (of which I also own) for video quality:

2001: A Space Odyssey
Blade Runner (Final Cut)
The Dark Knight
Iron Man
The Thing
Fight Club (10th Anniversary)

Will get the Dark Knight, great film.

Watched The Matrix last night - Bought the box set - the detail in it is astounding ! even the missus was saying "look at that spot on the back of her neck" LOL.

Unless I missed it can't see anyone mentioned Avatar, best looking blu-ray i've seen hands down and i've seen Dark Knight, District 9 and most of the other highly rated transfers. Admittedly Avatar has a distinct advantage in the fact its CGI but it really looks that good :D

Only just started collecting Blu-Ray...

Dark Knight - brilliant (although the IMAX scenes make me wish the whole movie was full screen)

Batman begins - brilliant

Black Hawk Down - kinda hard one to judge because of the way it was shot....makes my eyes tired watching it :)

Blade Runner 5 disc - Beautiful......looks like it was made yesterday.

Ratatouille - stunning. I'm definitely getting all the Pixar movies,

Have to say though, my TV isn't really big enough to do Blu-Ray justice (32" 1080) and upscaled DVD's look just as good as Blu-Ray - sometimes better! If I had a bigger screen I'm sure I'd notice the difference.

You've gotta get Toy Story, it's great on Blu-Ray although I'm an idiot and paid £19.99 for it from HMV. :p

glad I got toy story 1 &2 when they just came out on Blu-ray as HMV had a disney BOGOF deal on them, so it was either £25 each! or £25 for them both.

As said 2001 is absolutly amazing, makes some modern films look out dated and lacking colour/quality on blu-ray, but this is amazing and is a 100% must own on bluray
