Hi peeps,

Looking to repaint the downstairs lounge and dining/corridor area. I'm looking for light colours in both rooms, the dining/corridor area is all open into one and with the kitchen also. So in essence a big area to paint so obviously wouldn't want to lose the feel of light or space...

In regards to the lounge, it's medium sized and I will just be placing basic furniture here like TV, sofas, and corner cupboard. I would like to go for a feature wall, was thinking something like red on the main wall, then a really light colour (cream or something) on the other 2...

The colour scheme doesn't matter as I will be working around the paints of all rooms. Any advice or tips are welcome. Thank you!

Move all furniture to centre of room and cover with dust sheet. Put newspaper over floor.

If the walls are in a bad state, fill and sand them first, and brush any dust off the wall before painting.

Don't buy a cheapo brush as it will lose hairs and you'll be picking them out. Cheapo rollers are fine. Use a brush to paint coving/corners etc first, then paint the whole wall with a roller to blend in. Paint ceiling white and skirting/architraves etc gloss white, anything else looks rubbish unless you know what you're doing.

You'll need a couple (or more) of coats on the wall too.

cheers mate that's all insightful but I was actually asking for advice on choosing paint colours? lol...

Lol, you weren't very clear!

What kind of house is it? Old/new? What furniture do you have (colour/style)?

its a new house built in the 1990's. Furniture I think I will be changing soon but at the moment I have fabric sofa's mainly blue. The carpet and curtains are orangey yellow..
The kitchen and stairs are brown wood (as it is all open plan)

**** me, is this what it has come to on here

Spec me a paint colour for my own house?

How about you go and look at a few, take a few testers home and put it on the wall and see if you like it!

appreciate what you're saying, but ain't really dying for them kind of tips. Just asking around for hints and tips on choosing a paint colour/scheme that's all. Every little helps, I'm a man who likes to research, no matter how small or silly the question may seem, curiosity has it's own reason for living.
