The Prime Minister has deployed a team of civil servants to help co-ordinate preparations with the Roman Catholic church, as well as appointing Lord Patten as his “personal representative” for the trip.
He is now prepared to see the Government’s costs for the event, previously estimated at £15million, increase by as much as £4million in order to make sure it runs smoothly.

This has genuinely annoyed me (anger is coming). I know that it's a pittance in the grand scheme of things, but the amount being spent on the visit is equal to a quarter of the Forgemasters loan, which is not to be sniffed at. It's hypocritical to say the least, given how much spending has been cut, and how 'we're all in this together' and that this epic squeeze is 'inevitable'.
It's just a bit too much for me to take, £20million to show solidarity with an individual institutionally involved in the mass cover up of the rape and torture of children. Even if I overlook my intense distaste for the Catholic church itself, to show this kind of commitment to the individual of the Pope himself is just incredulous.
What do you think?
