Hi folks i was wondering if anyone on here works for Tesco and if so would be able to tell me what the period of notice needed is for someone with 5+ years service. I had hoped to find my contract however i cant find it and i am a bit of a hurry. Thanks in advance

I would rather they didnt know until i get confirmation of the new job however they are the ones asking how long the notice period is.

I think it's 4 weeks.

I'll ask my manager tonight if no one else posts to tell you. They are that useless they probably won't know though.

I still haven't been given my contract yet for the summer so I can't check on mine.

It's not on your contract?

Read.

It'll be either 4 weeks or 6. Just tell your prospective new employer it's 6, and hand in your notice.

Or you could ask your manager, or HR. You can't get in trouble just for asking about company policy and contract terms. Even if they ask if you're leaving, the answer is "maybe." Nothing is official until you've handed in your notice.

At the Tesco I work at it's only a weeks notice, and that goes for everyone, so I'm guessing yours would be the same

Yeah last thing i want is for this thing to fall through and them now knowing that i am actively seeking another job

Doesn't matter though does it, they can't do anything to you.

Unless you work a tiny amount of hours and get the rest from over time. Then they might act like ****s and not give you any until you leave.

probably depends what your job is

shelf stacker, assistant, etc probably require less notice than any admin or managerial type roles

i'm just guessing of course but the 4-6 weeks people have mentioned seems extreme for a Tescos employee below management level

I doubt there'd be any trouble tbh. Most HR & managerial types are pragmatic about this sort of thing, supermarkets and call centres in particular don't expect people to stick around too long.

There are always exceptions I guess, but I've never had any trouble when changing jobs.

According to the staff handbook I have in front of me its 5 weeks + 1 week for every additional year over 5 years you've worked.
