Stolen bike / Spec me a new bike?

The only difference i can see with the spec, if it is correct on both sites, is that the cyclestore version has a Shimano Tiagra rear derailleur and the Evans has the Sora. Apart from that, reading the specs they are the same bike.

Thing is, with Evan cycles they say that they set the bike up, sort the brakes and everything, tune it, all you do is put pedals on and turn handle bars. I've set bikes up before but I am no pro - I need to see if cyclestore do similer.

I could set it up and in a few months take to LBS.

Given that Tiagra is better (not by much, but it is better) go for that one.

Although if anyone is determined to nick your bike, they will but a lock is not something i would skimp on. It's a one-off investment and i would personally go for a Kryptonite New York lock. (Don't buy a really old second hand version though as there were issues years ago). Also, if i had the option, i would buy a bike from a store that i could visit if i have problems rather than an online retailer. I doubt very much if you will notice any difference in a slightly upgraded rear derailleur. If you're dead set on the Tiagra, then Evans may even fit one for you.

Wow £80 for a lock.

Okay man, I will go for it, wont skip on security. Both places (evan+cyclestore) are NOT local - my local stores are more pricey and I don't think have this bike - I suppose I can still take it there. When the pedal broke from my old GT, I took it to a LBS.

That's the same lock that i have.

This one is supposed to be the daddy of D-locks for a few quid more but the one you have picked is also very very good:

Now how difficult would it be to steal you wheels? They are quick release. You can change the skewers but they will still be very easy to steal. If you're in a high risk area, then you ought to have a cable lock to go through the wheels as well as the D lock.

A good lock is always going to be heavy. There's no such thing as a good lightweight lock so bear in mind that the New York is a heavy mother!!

Also be careful where you lock your bike up. For example, leaving it in a quiet unlit area at night increases the risk of theft.

I will leave that lock in my town locked to the bars rather than carry it on the bike to and from. The D lock will secure the back wheel.

What about a cheap lock for extra secureness? and the front wheel?

You can thread the cable lock through both wheels and the frame. It's entirely up to you which locks you buy but something like that could probably be cut with a pair of scissors, though it's better than nothing i suppose.

The lock is only there to secure the front wheel. I have the New York 3000 for the bike.

Wow didnt realise it cost that much I got one of those sent to me for free as a replacement after my bike got nicked with one of these on it. Shame the bike was £500 and wasnt covered by them

Anyway im pretty sure you'll be safe with the U lock as its a beast and weighs rather a lot to boot so good luck Also you can 'register' your bike with the company with the U locks and it is covered by them for up to £1000 i think if it gets stolen while locked up.

I might just get a good u lock, the £70 one and the cheap-o for the front wheel.

Gunna order bike tonight.

All I need now is a bag for it, I hate rucksacks (sweat loads), I want a little panner or something, I can put stuff in, nothing to much, just dinner, money and maybe clothes I buy, or some shopping, mad chinese noodles+teas , would like it to clip off easy when I park and carry as a bag. This stuff is a bit confusing, seen some that go where the front wheel is - there or the back I want it.

Alright lads.

I have the bike, lights, lock+extension and a mirror ALL SORTED.

I will get the helmet from a local bike store insted of online.

All I want now is a way of carrying some cargo - someone, help here - everthing is in my basket ready!!!
