To shoot or not to shoot?

Bit of an odd post this, I believe it doesn’t break any rules, if it does though – please accept my apologies mods and delete it!

Right – I’m sort of at my wits end here, and have made my mind up to shoot, but an interesting topic for discussion maybe?

Situation – I live in an end of terrace council house, our garden is very long and bordered by trees in most places, and 6 foot+ fences elsewhere, and owing to the fact it’s hot as hell most of the time now, our two cats like to go lay in the shade; and that’s where the problem starts:

We have two small birds that immediately come into the garden when the cats are out, I’m no bird expert but they are ****ing annoying! Seriously, they will squawk (not a little chirp) non-stop when the cats are there, sometimes it lasts for hours on end, and it doesn’t matter if the cats come back in (they get swooped at by the birds!) these bloody things still keep making a racket!

They’ve been around for at least a month now, possibly longer, and wont shut the hell up, they keep coming back, even though there’s no nest out there, it’s almost like they enjoy fighting cats and are determined to stand their ground – not great when you’re woken at 4AM to the sound and have to shut the windows either!

These last few weeks I’ve taken to wearing earplugs I use on the motorcycle, just so I can get uninterrupted sleep, but as I said, it’s getting on my wick now!

So, I have dug out an old .177 gas pistol I had, and intend to pop into town today to get pellets and gas – much as I don’t relish the idea of taking a shot at these birds, they really are taking the ****.

Anyone else been driven to the murder of animals :p

Are you asking us if you should discharge a firearm in the middle of a housing estate?

Surely you cant get rid of every bird ever?

Oh no, I don't want to get rid of all birds, just these two.

Get some ear plugs - the birds are probably just trying to warn your cats off their nest.

There's no nest, checked both trees - if there was, I would have thought we could get the council/RSPCA to move it...

Maybe you should shoot your cat if what scorza says is true?

Funny guy.

Get better cats

They are big jesseys, maybe you're right :D

But once they are gone... more will come.

TBH, it's a chance I'm willing to take.

The birds have probably got young ones. Leave them alone.

Don't shoot animals mind you could start with your cats. :p

Just live with it or get some earplugs. They're not packs of foxes trying to eat your chickens just birds doing no harm. One more time, leave them alone.

Wouldnt it be really funny if somebody spots you and you are arrested by armed police?

That wouldn't be funny at all, but thankfully the garden is very secluded, so the chances of being seen are very slim, better still, any stray shots wont hit anyone else.

What’s with all the cat hate :D

It’s not something I’m looking forward to, but seriously, you cannot imagine the noise these things make, it’s loud enough to drown out the TV, PS3 and, believe it or not folks, a 360s fans! ;) :p

Maybe I’ll hire a hitman to do it….

Have you tried talking to them? A diplomatic approach is almost always the best solution. Failing that, shoot their faces off and wear their skins as a mask. THis will amuse and entertain your neighbours who have probably called the police.

Get rid of your cats if possible by shooting (they are your problem).

Why kill birds when we have far to many cats in this stupid country ruining bird populations :(

Has me properly laughing - expect news headlines later today "armed mad man wearing bird skins tells police 'the internet made me do it'" :D
