Bad Company 2 question

Quick question, I noticed Bad Company 2 is on offer on steam and was curious about it. This came after Battlefield 2 didnt it? Is it an expansion that needs the orig? Or a standalone? I've never played a battlefield game before for some reason, and hear good things sometimes about this.

I used to love CoD2 and UO, thats the last time I had vehicular MP. I love CoD4 atm and play it loads. Is this definitely a contender?

Its better in my opinion. For example, In COD4; if someone is camping a room and sitting in a place where you can't kill them unless you rush in with loads of other people then you have a bit of a stalemate situation unless you go in knowing you will die.

In Bad Company 2; Just get your rocket launcher out and blow a hole in the wall behind where the other guy is camping!!

Sp while its downloading (at a slow 2mb/sec) tell me more. Does it have ranks, unlockable gear, customizable gear setups, different game modes, specific ranks for specific vehicles, vehicles spawning throughout the game (instead of all at the start), etc. Tell me more!

Hmm, it crashed while mapping keys. I joined my first game and got a kill right away (2v2), but keep egtting kicked for PB problem. so gonna track down an update

Be prepared to get killed a lot for many many hours. I forgot to mention that

. Will get easier as you unlock stuff.

Oh dont worry, I'm a veteran of many FPS games. Once I figure my way around the maps and learn the mechanics it gets a lot better, even compared to new gear. UI isnt what I'm used to and controls feel different, but its all a learning curve

cant say that i had a problem with it so cant advise.

get used to being killed at the start (might be different with the update)

also the game is so much better when you have a friend on comms

Hardcore is the only way to go

what gfx you got and which drivers? some are better than others for bc2, i use this one, has fast map load great FPS

I'm tempted by this again, I originally pre-ordered and played the Beta and it didn't run that great for me (felt slow and stuttery) was gutted so cancelled pre-order. Is this better optimized at retail or?

Specs are Ati Sapphire 5850 1gb, Phenom x4 965 @ stock (3.4ghz), 4gb Geil Ultra - playing at 1900x1200.
