Cancelling A Defrag?

Thats why i Defrag weekly when i go out, and by the time i get back its finished. I use JKDefrag now MyDefrag or something but the update is horrible.

I think everyone is putting too much faith in the built in defrag, it really isn't that good. Also I am pretty sure it isn't scheduled by default as I just checked mine and it wasn't.

Someone should analyse their disk with Windows defrag and also with a 3rd party defragger like Defraggler. I think the results will be quite different (I would but I just defragged...).

Edit: Actually someone probably has already - to the Internet.

You can always download it and analyse your disk with it, compare the results of Diskeeper and Defraggler analysis for fragmentation.

Why is it people trust the results of 3rd party more so than the windows one when it comes to showing end results in a numerical value? And also, whats the difference in performance on disk when comparing the difference between both end results.

Windows Defrag under windows 7 has my drive defragged, And to change to another what would the point be in real world performance terms.

Have you got any hard evidence which shows third-party defragmention programs significantly improve the performance of ones system from a real life perspective over the defragmention functionality in Windows Vista / Windows 7?

Nope, that is why I said someone should compare the analysis of the built in vs 3rd party, to compare how fragmented they think the drives are.

Well I thought it would be interesting to see how the built in defrag compares to 3rd party. I think most people believe built in stuff to usually be inferior to dedicated 3rd party apps.

And I am sure if there was a large difference between the two then the difference would be noticeable.

The only explanation for 3rd party companies to say things are fragmented and for windows to say they are not, Is if those companies are measuring fragmentation by a different standard. Note i said Different not better.

Only benefit Defraggler has over Windows Defrag is the added GUI options. The ability to defrag files, folders, etc. Which btw, I believe can be done using Windows Defrag via command line.

Real world performance differences between defraggler and the standard windows defrag would be miniscule. So much so benchmarking hasnt even been bothered with.

I did use defraggler in the past, and i went back to using the standard windows one after a format, I couldnt be bothered getting it and installing it. When there was zero obvious benefit.
