I've moved back home from Uni and starting to remember just how shocking the internet setup is here. I'm 99% sure the problem lies with this little nest at our master socket:

The internet drops out a lot of the time and speeds fluctuate hugely. However, after phoning BT, we ran a few test on the test socket and the speeds were fine and stable. Is anything that can be done to route the phone wires so there's no issue being caused with the internet? Something like a router, but for phones?

Cheers.

whats the reason for having all the connections into that one socket ?

try removing the bottom section of the face plate and just plug in the connection for the router, see what speeds you get.

I've no idea why. Lazy wiring probably.

Try what mp260767 has suggested, then you can rule out internal wiring problems. Though regardless of the results I still wouldn't be happy with that mess and would have to tidy it up!

as above, that wiring will only degrade your speeds like that. If you get an iplate you should see some improvement, and also no need for a filter!

However I'd be more worried about the wallpaper...criminal that is mate!
