Ultrac Sessantas - opinions?

I actually find the exact opposite over the F1s, the sessantas are very good in the wet and predictable, the assymetrics were snappy and just unnerving! Infact for the 9k i had F1s on my traction control spent more flickering than ever before, even at normal speeds on normal corners, that I can attack at +20mph with the other tyres. I'm still really not convinced mine were genuine though as I seem to have had the opposite experience to most.

I have conti sportcontact 3s atm which are also worth considering, very very good, not as progressive as the ultracs but seem to perhaps hold on slightly longer to begin with? Not much in it though.

Since people have had these at least a year or so now how have you found the tread wear?

I checked mine today as I got them just before last MOT in November and the rears will definitely need changing soon. They handle near enough the same as the PS2 but don't transport the road noise into the cabin as much and they've lasted half as long so I think I'll be going back to the PS2 or PS3 depending on price next time round.

The fronts have gone down a few mm but will definitely last up to another year with my regular driving.

OT too but I also had a dream last night that my final stage resistor went poof....time to touch wood ;p

Was about to post the very same thing. Very good tyres and another option to consider.

I've not really been able to tell the difference between my Contisport Contact 3's and the Eagle F1's really. They both seem to offer high levels of grip in both wet and dry. I think the fuel economy is marginally better with CS3's and there is a tad less road noise but otherwise they both seem on par.

So strange that rg-tom would have such a difference of opinion but then I guess when you have a driving style that dictates you dont drive to Sainsburys on anything less than the absolute limit of your cars ability, things might be different.

Fuel economy, I forgot about this. with the ps2 i was able to get 42.9mpg on a motorway run but with the sessanta i can manage 40.2.

Although mpg difference doesn't really bother me when both give me 27 around town lol.

On the RS4 you need a tyre with a good stiff sidewall as its a big heavy car that has a lot of grip.

The RS4 can move around a lot on tyre with weaker sidewalls such as the older F1 GSD3's and Toyo T1R's, making it squirmish and not so direct or precise. Also what tyre pressures does the RS4 run, if it runs sub 32psi pressures then you need a strong sidewall tyre even more so. If it runs over 38psi then you can get away with weaker sidewall tyre. Different tyres suit different cars!

Your best bet is to ask other RS4 owners, but I'd be inclined to stick with something with good strong sidewalls which could mean Pirelli, Michelin or Yokohama tyre.

not quite.....I'm still convinced the F1s were either a bad batch or not genuine, they were truely shocking.

They were excellent on my ST, seemed to lose about 2mm in 4000 miles that I had them on (sold the car) but that was a lot of motorway driving. Handling was excellent, much better than the conti's on it beforehand.
