IMAP in Outlook 2007 / 2010

I have four IMAP accounts which are accessed by outlook. The root folder for each account appears in the left hand navigation pane.
Each root folder has a number of sub folders like inbox, junk, deleted items etc.
I expand the folder structure so that I can see all of the inboxes so that when new mail comes in I can see which account has new mail. This works fine.
However if I clos outlook and then open it again all of the folder structures have collapsed, just showing the root folder for each account. I have to click on the +for each folder to expand them all again.
Does anyone know how I can get the folder structures to stay expanded.
It's ok on POP accounts, it's just the IMAP ones that are a problem.

I've noticed this before, although it's never really bothered me - a bit of googling suggests it's a "feature" of Outlook with no direct solution.

As a (partial) workaround, I guess you could add the inbox of each IMAP account to "Favorite Folders", then you could see them as soon as you open Outlook without having to expand the folder structure for each one...
 
This annoys me too. I only have two IMAP accounts in Outlook (changed from POP3 when I started using email more on the move), but having to click each one rather than being able to instantly see if you've got new mail is a bit inconvenient. The favourites option doesn't work for me, as I have loads of folders with rules for different senders / types of email, so need the inbox to be expanded. I'd need to add all my inbox folders to the favourites as well as any future folders I create. Whilst that's not a problem as such, it's stupid that this is the only option.

Although I like Outlook, I'm amazed at it's relatively poor IMAP support.

Other problems I had were:

- Having to click send / receive to check for mail even though it's meant to be a 'live' connection, constantly self-refreshing (could be a configuration problem but I haven't solved it yet).
- Slow synchronisation (20Mb cable connection).
- Unable to change the default drafts folder to be Gmail's account, meaning that Gmail and Outlook are never truly synchronised as I tend to have a lot of drafts.
