5 Days of BMW ownership... interesting!

Had my E46 convertible now since wednesday, and an interesting experience it has been.

Not sure if its me or the car but it likes a bit of the right foot action when moving from a standstill up hills, the ST could happily pull itself up at idle speed in 1st. I guess thats down to the very high low down torque.

Corners at speed are fun though, had the tyres screaming bloody mary a few times now.

Ohh and every chav in torbay seems to want to race me!

Fella, you made a BIG mistake saying anything bad about a BMW in these here parts.
If you find that it doesn't pull well from standstill, there must be something seriously wrong with it. And if there isn't, what were you expecting anyway?!
If you find that the tyres are screaming, they must be crap tyres.

That last part: yuppie brands tends to have that effect.

And why the **** is R420LA6X2/4MNA talking about HGVs in this thread?

LOL why? This is my 3rd BMW and quite possibly my last. Too many little issues that i could take for granted would work as it should in other 'lesser' brands that are just problematic in mine, and its not even my car itself, they're well known issues.

Maybe you're doing it wrong ?! (or your clutch is naffed).

Heck I only have 4 cylinders yet 1st > 2nd and 3rd are perfectly capable of pulling away or going up hill from standstill.

How often do you pull away in 3rd, going up hill?

I've done that by mistake, did go albeit with some buckling, not much of a hill either. In winter all my move offs were done in 2nd.

I found i could pull away up a minor incline in a 1.4 diesel when i was learning to drive using just the clutch - could even manage it in a crap 1 litre corsa on the flat too which appeared relatively devoid of torque.

Seems strange that the bm can't unless there are clutch problems.

Providing you lift the clutch up slow and carefully enough you can pull away in pretty much any gear, maybe with the 330i the CDV might make it a bit harder to do so.

But a lot of cars will also increase throttle/ fueling when load is applied to the engine which is evident when you start to pull away quite hard with no throttle and suddenly dip the clutch - the revs will rise.

Yup, had to drive about 1.5 mile home in my old Ibiza stuck in 4th due to a linkage issue :D 1.9 derv though so she pulled ok.
