If your name is Phate, you might want to look away now :p

Got to agree with Johnny, if i talk to anyone about weddings, yours is the first web site i point them to!

Have to say that they're right, Raymond's photos are awesome.

If I ever find someone dumb enough to agree to marry me.....

@ Raymond: Just have a nosey through your website and noticed one slight spelling thing. On 'About Me' I'd say it should be "it is the happiest day of one's life and all the loved ones are gathered together to enjoy the day." instead of "it is the happiest day of one's life and all the love ones are gathered together to enjoy the day." :).

Fixed :)

When you do get hitched, drop me a line :)

Looks like things are really taking off for you Raymond.

I've had a few months out personally to think about where I want my photography to go, keep it as a hobby, or try to make some money. I've decided to try and make some money and now have 2 weddings lined up (proper paid ones!). Hurrah!

Just in the process of setting up a website, insurance, decent contacts for hiring a 2nd body on a regular basis etc.

Good luck with your upcoming weddings. I'm certainly aspiring to what you have achieved so far, I have no doubt you've got great things ahead of you :)

Good to hear that from you as well mate :)

Thanks SS.

things have moved on and fast in the last 6 months in terms of weddings. I am getting regular enquiries and actually had to turn down about 4 for this year due to clashes with other bookings. And most of this came from the wedding i did last summer, she has been my biggest PR agent! I got about 5 referrals from her so far. I actually want to get her something in return but i am stuck as to what to get!

In regards of your venture, i wish you the best of luck :) and buy your gear, if you plan to do this then invest in your gear soon as you can afford to. Renting is throwing money away, taking profits from your jobs.

I am doing it all properly now, insurance (public liability, professional indemnity, theft), and even an accountant to sort out what I owe the taxman. :)

When is your first wedding btw?

Quick question Raymond, what/who are you using for your albums and printed media?

I amm using Loxley for albums, And on the occasion that when clients ask for prints i used ds colour labs.

I am making a KISS book at the moment to see what they are like. I am mot at the point to justify jorgenson or queensbury yet.

Sorry if it's been answered, but why don't you do wedding videography? There are TV series which use the 5D (one I worked on recently used 5D's along with RED cameras), it would be a brilliant way to expand especially with 2 cameras (hire an op?)

Because:-

1 - It takes an entirely different skill sets. The way I imagine a photo, a moment before they happen to a videotographer imaging a entire sequence are different. I need to learn it from scratch, or wire my brain a different way.

2 - I need more gear for that. Gyro and what not, external LCD screen for the 5D etc for better viewing on the fly.

3 - I need software such as Final Cut Pro and then learn how to use that

Then there is little things such as learning how to edit, what is good, what is bad. If you want any TV show, there is a cut in less than 10 seconds. That is a lot of cuts, and they do a lot of takes. A wedding is 1 take, 1 5Dii isn't enough (as I would be using the other one) to shoot a video. You need at least 2 on the go (and I need more memory).

Basically, I do what i am good at, and not over stretch myself. Like photography, find my passion within it, work at it, be good at it. There is no need for me to go into videotography really, i would be neglecting my first love if i did. I don't do this FOR the money. I do it firstly because i love photographing people, the fact that it pays for itself is a bonus for me. I don't have the urge to film people, that is a good reason not doing it.

That TV show you are referring to is HOUSE MD.

Agreed Raymond. Was photographing an event today and one guy was recording video and I was photography and we were discussing what we prefer etc. It's two totally different things.

An option for you Ray would be to go into partnership with a videographer, that way you do what you love and the client has their wedding on video. Plus the videographer is do what he/she wants :p

Win win all round.

However, that will also jack up the price to cover costs.

...so you take photos at weddings and you bought 2 identical cameras .. is this what this thread is all about or am i missing something ....

He had a 5DMkII and a 30D backup camera. His business has picked up a lot in the last 6 months so now his 'backup' camera is another 5DMkII.

SS - What's the best email address to contact you on dude?

Or can I just give you a call this evening? :p
