Possible New Car Time

But then it becomes a rather generic and dull hatch. Better options out there for the money, like the CTR.

I would prefer the CTR too and I did mention it in the list of cars

However, The Cupra 1.8 20VT doesnt claim to be anything other than what it is, a nippy practical hatch, my mate had one and it was a very good car

Type R seems quite a good shout actually.

I quite fancy a clio, but I'll see what crops up on the Civic side of things too. There also seems to be a lot of unmolsted clios around Edinburgh area within the price range.

I cant understand why anyone would go for the Clio over the CTR unless the running costs were a massive difference between the two

Because the Clio 172/182, and to a greater extent, the Trophy, were masterpieces in their own right. Sublime handling for a FWD hatch, light as you like, and incredibly chuckable.

The CTR on the other hand isn't anywhere near as focused.

Yeah I imagine they handle better than the CTR out of the box, I havent driven a Clio but so many things put me off when reading about them and the CTR still has decent handling out of the box that can be improved if you wanted it to compare or be better than a Clio Sport

Does the Clio have a belt or chain?

This is why am leaning towards a Clio. It has to be fun, fairly fast and chuckable. No dount the CTR can do this, but for some reason the Clio seems like a more 'fun' car. But will give both of them a chance.
