Facebook Saddos @ BBC Sport

Spot on, exactly how I use it, for communication. You dont have to accept everyone that requests you and you can ignore all the crap so it doesnt bother you again, its all under your total control.

I still dont really get what this thread is about, facebook and twitter links are all over the internet as at a click of a mouse you can share information, surely thats what the internet is all about

Did you read the OP at all? The BBC wrote that you can become a saddo by joining Facebook.

Whilst I use Facebook pretty much daily, I don't install apps or anything like that, and keep it to people I actually know. I find it great to keep in tocuh with friends who are rubbish at keeping in touch. Furthermore over 80% of my friends don't live in London. Addtionally 20% of my friends don't even live in the UK so it makes it nice and easy to keep in touch that way.

It's easier and quicker than typing out an email to all of them regularly - and it's far more visual. It's nice to share pics of nights out or parties or places you've been with people you care about that can't be with you.

The majority of my family don't live in the UK either so again it's a great way to keep tabs on what's going on in their lives - sure we chat on Skype from time to time, but at least this way you get live data and a feel of what's going on with their lives on a day to day business. All big news clearly, you know about far sooner.

So, yes I use Facebook, but I use it for the use that I need from it. Keeping in touch with friends and family that I can't see regularly - it's made keeping in touch with people easier, and if anything has brought a lot of my friends and family in a better state of contact. It's good to embrace things which are helpful - rather than snub things because you're not interested in it.

Very well put, and almost exactly how I use Facebook.

I don't understand why people seem proud of themselves when they don't use social networking sites and get up on their high horse when others say that they do.

It's those same people that share their lives (and personal items) on an internet forum which is public, and where there are lots of strangers. At least FB means you can taylor things to friends who actually care about you.

I don't have many "friends" on FB. I use it as a way of keeping in contact generally with people who live far away / I don't talk to much because of their work lives conflict with me / whatever.

End of the day it's a bit of harmless fun. :)

Have we had independent confirmation of OP yet?

As I also 'saw' (before they removed it):
