Best free software to record PC games?

Thanks i got Xfire. One question tho, when i click my hot keys to record, nothing happens. Am i missing a tip or something? I have enabled video capture.

Thanks

Fraps isn't free, well it is but there's that annoying bit at the top ive used things like gamecam (free version doesn't record sound :() and xfire ( I don't know however if you could use it like you do with fraps and such)

Edit: on your issue with recording, is the in-game working also when you do the scroll-x?

Nope. When i press Scroll and X, nothing happens.

Thought it was V for video not X?

It is however if the game isnt being recognised by scroll-x then scroll-v won't work aswell as xfire isnt seeing the game open = it won't be able to capture what you see :)

Glad to see its recognised now, recording okay?

As far as I know you can't upload Xfire videos to YouTube anyway, and the free version of FRAPs only allows you to record for 5 minutes.

But to record with Xfire you just need to be logged in and have it running, then just press scroll lock + V to record. You'll know when it's running because your frame rates will drop to 30 FPS and unless you have a fast hard drive gameplay will stutter. You will also need a lot of hard drive space, because the files are uncompressed files. A 3 minute video recorded with FRAPs at 1920x1200 full screen takes up over 10GB of space.

To enable sound and to choose a destination folder, click on tools in the Xfire window, then options, then click the video tab.

Ive actually managed to upload one to youtube however I can't for the life of me remember how the hell I did it.

The only thing I can think I did is either switched it to avi or something similar or imported it to movie maker or something, was a long time ago sorry XD

I've found playclaw gives much better performance than xfire and fraps.

If you have a multicore it can also compress while recording, without causing a performance hit it most games.
