Just bought an ATi XFX Black Edition card 2 days ago and have installed ATi Catalyst control center but for some reason it says my graphics card was unlocked back in April!? Should it be like that on a new card??

My last card when i bought it new it was locked!

Also should there not a manual fan control function on these cards to set what fan percentage you want and also temperature display?

looks like an early ccc, i think from 10.3 it would have hydrovision next to graphics tab so probly the drivers are old also

If the card states the correct settings as shown when you bought it, then don't worry about it. It's not the card, it's probably an old driver or you or someone else has unlocked Overdrive in the past, it's not a big deal as long as the settings are fine.

It does look like an old driver, because i can't see the option to control the fan.

try the latest drivers

seems odd that it would be unlocked. i certainly havent seen that before.

for every new driver you put on your computer doesnt it lock it again?

you arent using the drivers that came on the disk are you?

Thanks for the replys, I am using cat version 10.6 and the last version I used was version 10.3. I have just upgraded to this card so I'm thinking there is a problem from using my last card (4780x2) I have used driver sweeper everytime but still no luck, it's looking like a full re-install of win7 ultimate might be the only solution

just been told in another post that someone had the same problem and they need to flash the bios? Is this easy?!

i cant see the bios being a problem

if you have to ask about bios flashing then it is probably a very bad idea.

In my experience it does indeed, given one removes the previous driver fully and properly. (X1950XTX and 5770 CUcore)

thats what i was thinking, seems that it does lock every time you put a new driver on.

just confirmed it on a 5870 and a 5770 at work

Its the bios! Flash and it will be fixed

Trust me been there done that.

Your card will be an early one (irrespective of when you bought it) The first one came with a poor Bios if you go the XFX website you will find the updated Bios, you will need a Flash drive and basic Dos commands.Boot to the flash drive and run the Flash tool. 5 mins and you will be in a happy place with your 59.

Flashed the Bios late this morning, piece of cake!

Problem sorted now, can see the temps and control the fan again woo!

If i manualy put the fan to 35% it goes down to 44*c and is around 60*c when in full use, thats why i wanted the manual fan control sorting ;)

Happened to me when I replaced my dead 4870 with my 5770. Clocks was set to my 4870 clocks. I just hit default in ATi Catalyst and that sorted it out.
