Is there a minimum amount of years NCB you have to have before you can protect them? I think I'm on 4 now and was just wondering.

From my experience, no, it's not worth it.

It potentially added more to my premium when I had 5yr NCB than it would have cost to insure it with 3yrs.

Given that I'd only lose 2 years for claiming, it seems like a non-starter to me.

Now that I have 8 years NCB there is even less point, as I'd still have 6 should I claim.

Is it worth protecting NCB?

Not really you only get additional 10-15% (allthough someone will tell me it 17.59%) off for the change from 4-5 years then if you crash you still have to declare so you end up paying more anyway regardless and also paying more for the policy anyway.

Sorry mate but I'm trying to comprehend the above  lol

If your history suggests you'll benefit from it you won't be offered it. It's just a nice extra way for insurers to make more money.

It only added £20 or so to my premium so it was a no-brainer really (at 4 and 5, insurance has been the same for the past 2 years, no-one can compete damnit! :p It's damn cheap mind so not a problem)
