No Claims Bonus Expiry

Is it true that any NCB you have built up in the UK will expire after 2 years if you are not insured on any vehicle?
 
That's what I did since moving over to a company car, I managed to extend it to 3 years.

However to extend the question of the thread, if you insure yourself as a 2nd driver on someone else's car - does that count?
 
Wait a minute - I didn't know about this.

I am on a classic policy which doesn't build any no claims, I have 2 year's NCB with a previous car with the same insurer as the classic policy (which I cancelled when starting the classic policy and got proof of NCB etc), so will my NCB expire in 2 years since it's not on anything?

Call them and find out?
 
I will give Bell Direct a call if/when I move back to the UK to see if they will still honour my NCB. If not, then looks like I will have to start from the beginning again :(
