SETI@home News Vol. 109 (01/07/2010)

Managed to get 81 wu's downloaded :p
64 of them are VLAR's

My first batch were like that but they seem to be levelling out a bit and i do mean a bit...83 woohoo:)

Ha!

Got none in my downloaded ones, but still waiting to finish downloading the rest hope they are not VLAR's :)

Hope not :(
Ere Marine i thought you had a keen sense of eye sight, i need talk i missed it myself....someones birthday today :) Strange i thought someone with the same username oo its me i thought what a plonker :D:D

I've had to stop downloading GPU tasks for SETI - they just slow my rig down something rotten, to the point at which it sometimes becomes almost unusable :(

Still plugging away with the ol' CPU tasks though :)

Thank yee kindly - reminds me of a picture i seen am sure it was on here, a very sweet looking old dear saying "i have alzheimers but at least i don't have alzheimers" better get it checked out :D

Shame i couldnt send you some of these TT, what a blinking shower ! :(

Think yourself lucky i've got more VLAR WU's on the main rig than gpu WU's at around 700 VLAR to 650 gpu
Just a shame i process 6-10 times+ as many gpu WUs than CPU WU's

They're not out of work as far as I can tell - it's just that the download servers are overloaded (or whatever 'http error' points to). Put another way I have 123 tasks on this rig, but 122 of these are really struggling to be downloaded.

Edit: 121 left to download, so they are getting through but just veeeeery slowly.

Its the network - its been totally maxed out since the limitations were lifted! The servers actually seem to be able to handle a lot of beef, its just that damn pipe!

Morning all hope everyone has had their fill at least enough to get through the 3 day outtage :)
As wu's are downloaded i am running rescheduler on a regular basis to catch vlar etc but one machine for whatever reason is working as far as resched is concerned but the timings on fermi tasks....most tasks are taking over 1 hour.
The gpu is running correctly 1450 shader av temp 70 degrees av load 82% any ideas anyone? much appreciated :)

I think they had a "bring your NAS to work" day and started filling it up with filth :o ;)

EDIT: Completing quite a bit of work but very little is validating :( pending has gone from 26k to 52k. Got some AP units waiting to validate giving near 1,300 each!

Well that was pants!

I can only assume that the servers were totally maxed out. I still have 600 tasks downloading - not sure what will happen to them! I'm in a better position to some, as I have enough to get me easily through the outage, but boy, do they need to do a little more thinking about this! I was getting drips of tasks all night (at 0.2k). When I left for work this morning, I had about 900 tasks downloading. By lunch time, this was down to 600. Unfortunately, I had to go and do a second shift today, so those 600 tasks were still downloading when they disabled the download servers!!!! Got 2 shed loads of VLARS & VHARS to cap it all! Overall, I started out thinking positive thoughts about all this, but now, I'm not sure they're thinking straight! How did everybody else get on?

A mixed bag Im afraid..
On my fermi rig I have
CPU 325 - all of them VLAR's
GPU 332 of which 135 are VLAR's and 66 VHAR's

My desktop with the GTS250 manged to get 20 CPU and 14 GPU units and despite my best efforts would not request any more work no matter how many times I requested - Id get the scheduler request - not requesting work message

I understand that they need the outage, but with this limit thing that they propose - how are we meant to fill the cache?

bit hacked off - I hate wasted GPU/CPU cycles...

Is it just me or was there an inordinately large number of VLAR's ? anyone else think that they are getting rid of all the unprocessed units that were sent back due to the likes of the VLARKill so that they don't have any of the old units left to interfere with the new points system?

How did everybody else get on?

All i've got to say about that is on the main rig i'm already 1/4 through all the GPU WU's i managed to DL so guess it's not gonna last 3 days Oh Well  guess it'll have to be MW@H on gpu whilst i process the 750 VLAR GPU WU's stuck in the cache
