Streetview in poor areas of the USA...

Really, I have seen a few board up homes but not street after street after street.

No but i live on a road that has about 1000 houses all attached in a long line, with tiny gardens and no parking. Ive seen much worse in this country, take Plymouth for example, what a **** hole.

Even with the link, thread fails. Just because it's not a hugely built up area doesn't mean it's one of poverty. Making it out to be some sort of slum.

I spent a good hour looking and what I saw wasn't good. Not for the supposed richest country in the world. Maybe it's a part of society that can never be fixed.

OP needs to be banned. There are LOTS of houses this cheap there: 3 Bed, 1 Bath | 1,296 Sq Ft = $2000

OK so the area is bad but the house looks ok. Suppose you worked over the internet and had some savings - what would be wrong about buying that house? The area isn't totally derelict. Just scroll right from the OP' post and you will get an idea of the lovely neighbours you would have.

What would you have the country do for them though? Increase benefits?

Any mention of that over here and half the country goes berserk because all who claim benefits are scroungers.

Very simply by creating jobs. Stop buying stuff from Asia and start actually being an industrial power again. Funny how the greed of American capitalism has eroded the basis of American power and awakened a hostile sleeping dragon of 1 billion plus people by outsourcing and building their nations. Just goes to show how national interests and those of businessmen are often polar opposites.

I wasn't aware that there was a shortage of jobs in the US?

Yeah spot on.

I never mentioned benefits. The us government can't afford much at all any more with ten trillion dollars of debt.

Business and jobs are the way forward.

I got to be fair some of you need to visit Newport
That street in Leeds looked pretty by comparison

It's uks biggest hole tbh

the houses/areas your looking at are mostly abandoned. thats why they look scruffy and poor. who do you expect to pay for and look after abandoned houses ? we have similar abandoned areas in this country but its just on a bigger scale over there (like everything else in the US !) over here we bulldoze them but over there i guess they still have too much hope of things turning around

detroit was the fastest growing city in USA (maybe the world ?) for years people travelled from all around the country to go there and make money. then the motor industry collapsed and no one had any reason to be there anymore so everyone left

the city area was pretty much purpose built for a population of 2 million people. there are around only 0.8 million people there now including a HUGE amount of homeless who have moved across the country because they know theres plenty of empty houses there :o

detroit fascinates me
